Sadly on the run today the Cap'n's horse pulled up early. Thanks to Dan for the instant diagnosis and to all of you for staying with me and Jo down to Trecastle. It was humbling to see you all hanging around waiting to see if we where OK. The AA man was late but it allowed us to have some top scoff in the pub. A special to Dave and Gem for bringing Jo home.
Sorry to the newbies, Sam, Brian and Pricey for a shortened run and I promise I WILL BE BACK SOON for another one.
The DEFI's where very accurate and gave the warning signs straight away (oil pressure) with the noise indicating an oil pump fault. The car owes me nothing, so I need to plan a way forward with Dan and Dean at Three Arches, who I am sure will spend my cash wisely when I find it down the back of the sofa .

Sorry to hear about that Ian.
If you need any engine parts give Advanced Autos in Bristol a ring and speak to Cath, tell her I put you onto them and give the best prices possible.

Gutted for you Ian, I know too well also how much these cats can try your parience on times.
Echoing ty's comments, if there's any way I can help you (my van has a tow hitch, or you need to lump anything big down to Cardiff) I will, I still owe you a big one for the fan rescue escapade!!
Failing that , just rob ty's engine when it's finally done, the amount he drives it it'll Probably be Christmas run next year before he realises!!! (love you really Ty)

I had a great run up until everyone going their separate ways.
We carried on to Llandovery, Builth and Abergavenny.
Dean and Dan will sort you out! Good luck with it, hope its at the cheaper end of the spectrum!

Sorry to hear you had a problem yesterday there Ian, hopefully now to repair will not be to bad in time and cost.... One bit of advice if I may suggest is not to get to carried away on the rebuild, it's easy from what I see adding uprated parts etc when maybe not necessary and the bill spirals, so keep focused and work to a plan drawn up before you start.

Ta all.
It's getting stripped out today. I am probably going for an API rebuild but to normal JDM Spec. They will get a call on Wednesday.
Depending on the damage the cost could be manageable or make my teeth itch! Short block, long block or a new engine. As I said the car owes me nothing and I owe nothing on it.

Oh S!!t that's not good, you've only just put the engine back in. Is there much damage to internals. You've put me right off buying another Scooby I'd cry my eyes out if I blew another one up.

**** happens just glad you were able to make a safe journey home(Could of been worse and gone whilst in France etc)
A few of us been in the same situation now, these cars do take a bit of a hammering and I would say they are just as reliable as other at this BHP level. I'm still shocked my old Blue one kept going strong, I sold it with 129K it then did some more miles for another 6 months before being sold to be broken where the engine went in another car.
API will sort it out, As said no need to go for uprated internals for the level of power your running or plan to do. I would suggest an API Uprated oil pump and thermostat though and if money can stretch one of there large oil catch can with sump return and a cosworth sump plate.
Also worth fitting a oil cooler, cheap enough and easy to fit yourself

Cpt,
Gem and I were happy to help yesterday after all the times that we needed help and you have been there.
As everyone as said if you need anything just shout and fingers crossed the car will be back on the road sooner rather than later and not leave your wallet to light.

Had a very informative talk with David from API who took time out to call me. I have been given an excellent option. Down to 3 A's for a chat then sort out option 1.
This is much easier than I thought.

Gutted Ian but every cloud has a silver lining!
Been down this road years ago as you know, took me a month to decide what to do and who to do it. David ran me through all the options and the end result was peace of mind for the future and great reliability.
If your gonna spend money on maintainance you can spend a little more and get more bang for your buck! Don't go chasing pub talk figures go for drivability
Good luck mate

I think you're going for the best option Ian, I only wish I'd thought about my own predicament more and good down the same route as you.
I'm sure you'll be happy with the end result.
