Default newbie air filter question

ive just fitted a K&N panel filter and i have had a good search on the forum for the answer to my question but no luck
the 2 queries are

1) Do the K&N filters need oiling before fitting ?

2) when cleaning the filter (im guessing at every service) does it need re-oiling ? i am aware that you dont want any oil ending up on the MAF

sorry for my stupidity

In answer to

1) No

2) No, as you would only clean it (by very gently tapping it out or by blowing air very gently so not directly at the element), re-oiling would only happen if it became dried out, I think the recommendation is every 50,000 miles or so.

The only issues happened on vehicles where the filters had been over-oiled due to incompetence, the only MAF's that were prone to this were the classic MAF's which were inherently weak anyway.

Just make sure if you re-oil a filter that they are given a very light coating (and this may seem obvious but some still do it - only oil the outer face of the filter) and then any excess oil is wiped off and you will be fine.
