Default Is this the end....

Firstly i need to say massive thanks to Taylor for stopping on our way home from the meet tonight and giving me a lift and a hand. (don't worry i haven't crashed again lol) anyway here's the story.
Well guys it looks like my little JuSTi could quite possibly be dead. On the way home from the meet tonight i was on the motorway and the check engine light came on. I stopped and pullled over to see there was steam pouring out through the bonnet (This is where i crapped myself and my first instinct was to get the fire extinguisher from the boot lol) Anyhow we checked for any splits in the hoses and for any pipes that may have come off but everything looked ok, so topped the water tank back up. To cut it short i got home fine in the car without the engine light coming back on, and had a quick look over everything again, but sadly the car is sounding pretty rough (misfiring and some white smoke coming from the exhaust) Going to start stripping it down after work tomorrow i think to see whats going on. I think the water pump may have packed in so its overheated causing the headgasket to go. Will keep you all posted and once again cheers Taylor i owe you one. Totally devastated

Now where did i put that Impreza engine?
Ryan

No probs Ry. Gutted if its that bad. When did it start missfiring? What makes you think its the waterpump? It might not be the end for her just yet.

Hope it works out all ok, a head gasket for a swift should be that much though.

Hope you sort it Ry.

Got the head off tonight with help from my dad and Mark. And I'm 99% sure that it's the head gasket. Going for skimming tomorrow and will hopefully be refitting tomorrow night. Also cleaned up all the top of the pistons as there was loads of carbon deposit on top, so should help the engine to run a bit better now aswell going to to the timing belt while I'm at it aswell and an oil change.

The thing i'm worried about is did something cause the gasket to go? or was it just general wear and tear

Ryan, did you have to use a repair/thicker head gasket in order to maintain the clearance between the pistons and valves?

Good luck and I hope you are there tomorrow in the JuSTi.

I think what ty is getting at, is due to having the head skimmed and the guy taking quite abit off, is there enough valve clearance if your using a standard gasket instead of a thicker one to bring the clearance back to within standard tolorance

I'll be adjusting all the valve clearances aswell anyway But i think the new gasket is a bit thicker than the old one.
