Anyone fancy a cheap 4X4?
I have my 1999 Black Jeep Cherokee for sale. Its 4.0L which gives you 17mpg urban and 27mpg on a run. That about the only thing thats not cheap about owning a Jeep.
Its done 68K and with the history and MOTs I'm sure its genuine. Lots of dealer receipts up to 2004. Has a fresh ticket on it now.
I've owned the Jeep since January of this year and in that time I've spent over a grand to get it just so. Although theres not a long list of parts, I'm not a mechanic so I've paid a fair chunk in labour. I bought the diesel rear springs to make the Jeep "just so" all the pics I have are with the old petrol springs which were not too bad but I wanted to change anyway. The rears are leafs - its american what do you expect
4 new tyres
Diesel rear leaf springs
Front discs and pads
New belt
Oils and filters all replaced
Everything works. No knocks bangs etc etc. Theres a small dent on the bottom of the drivers door but not really that noticeable.
I paid £1500 in January. I've spent well over £1000 (receipts for everything) and thats what I'm after for my jeep - £1000.

I sold it about 2 months ago - it went to Bulgaria of all places.
It was a fantastic bit of kit of the money. I have a golf MK3 for day to day which is worthless and the Jeep as worth a grand - I needed the money to buy a scoob so the Jeep had to go - if I didn't have the golf I would have kept the Jeep and saved the grand elsewhere.
Being 4L it drank fuel like you would not believe - makes a scoob look frugal and probably worse than my old GTIR which was truly shocking. With the auto box though it was effortlessly smooth.
The rear springs on the petrol XJ cherokee are weak and sag (1890 leaf spring technology) which alters the position of the prop which in turn puts pressure on the rear diff - hence why some will say the rear diffs break on them - well thats why. I changed mine to diesel which are stronger but a biatch of a job to do.
Interiors wear well and its all 80s american plastic but it didn't bother me. Everything worked as it should and if you get a good one I see no reason why it won't last for ever. The UK XJs were built in Austria - they were flat packed from the states and built there.
When my Golf finally gives up the ghost I'd be tempted to get another one - the diesel engine is apparently rubbish and the heads go so if you go diesel look for one thats had the head done - the run out model was the "Orvis" with a little rear spoiler and dodgy bonnet vents.
As long as you get a good one - its not hard and they are cheap but you may have to travel - and be aware that fuel will cost you. I think they are awesome!
