Unhappy £1000 for head re-ferb???

Please could anyone help me with this problem? I have been quoted £1032 for a head re-ferb on my wife's Fiesta 1.4 16v zetec, due to a collapsed timing belt tensioner, the garage (in aberdare area) will strip off the head , send it for re-ferb, and then re-fit, It sounds very exspensive to me, was expecting around the £500 mark. does anyone know of anywhere that could do this sort of work, cheaper, was thinking of trying to souce a second hand head from a breakers and getting the garage to fit it for me. any advise would be appreciated.
P.S I only bought it for her 2 weeks ago cos she kept kerbing my 18's

Sounds expensive to me, I'd shop around a bit first if i was you.
Didn't the car come with a warranty? it should have or did you buy it private?
The only thing else i can suggest is to take out a warranty with someone like
warranties on line, then put a claim in later on! not exactly pc but worth a try.

Thumbs up

this is quiet a labour intensive job
but i would of expected it to of been around 700tops
also depends on what parts they are using ford parts are more expensive than noddy parts ask for a break down of costs
would of thought it would be about 6-7hours labour plus parts plus vat
hope this helps.....

thanks for your reply, patrolman, I was also expecting 700 tops, the latest on this problem is that i have sourced a used head from a ford breakers online £172 inc vat and next day delivery service, waiting for local garage to quote me happy on changing it over for me and fiting new belt and adjuster.

What year is the car? Is it Duratec or Zetec? Some people are confused, not saying you are. £250/300 labour plus part/costs. If your interested. Re-build is cheaper if thats an option. PM for details.
