Llandow karting Centre
#1
Went to Llandow this afternoon to see what it was like (as some people in work are interested, so I had to do to honourable thing and try it out first)
I went on the 850 circuit. Am I right in assuming that the only difference between the 500 and 850 tracks is that on the 850 track the hairpin bend half way round the circuit is a bit further down. If so the this didn't look like a difference of 300m to me.
Also I was lucky in that a few others were there on their own karts (1 was the onwer/managers kart I think) and as they were using the 850m track he let me do 17 laps of the 850m circuit for £12.
The kart I went in was a 160cc kart. When I asked about a endurance event he said that for £35 per head we could have teams(2 per team I assume) racing for 1 1/4 hours and that we would be using the bigger engined karts (250cc I think he said). Are these a lot faster(or just a bit), as I noticed that the twin engined karts absolutely flew past me when I was going around and they seemed to handle a lot better too.
One thing I did notice was that the karts understeered much more than the karts you get on indoor tracks (it seemed that you had to drive them like F1 cars whereas on indoor circuits you seem to drive more like a WRC car).
Any comments on Llandow welcome

should have added that I had a great time although I did fel a bit lonely being the only 1 there without my own kart (and the others had twin engined karts too which made it worse as I had no chance of keeping up with them).

hel as you go down from the pits in a straight line is the smaller track if you go around to the left at the bottom that is the bigger track,,
the karts are the same as the indoor ones <eng etc> the twin eng ones do about 70mph and are much moor fun to drive i raced twin eng karts <with the boss at llandow> at raf st, athens and if you go again you MUST go on thease lol

I asked about the twin engine karts and basically they won't let us use them for arrive & drive or endurance/grand prix etc. He said that they were trying to sell their existing engines and put twin engines on the karts(as the karts are designed so that they can have twin engines etc), but thats for the future
I looked on the web and theres a great looking kart place in Dorset called Clay Pigeon (strange name I know). They do twin engines and a 1 hour arrive & drive = £45, 20 minutes = £18 etc. This seemed like a good deal to me.
Anyone been there?

I did a 1 hour arrive and drive at Clay last year while down there on holiday. It is a lovely track, I really enjoyed it. Lost a wheel and ended up in the sand but at least it stopped me before I hit the wall. I thought it was a nice , fast track.

If anyone does organise karting at Llandow they can definately put my name down (whether its weekend or evening - the joys of having flexitime) - especially if its the twin engines karts
Just out of interest does anyone know which are the fastest - twin engines karts or 2 stroke karts(as used on www.100club.co.uk)

Just sold my car last week. It was an MY98 reddish blue, Full scoobysport exhaust, 17" OZ Super T Evos, Prodrive WR Spoiler.
I put the car in the auotrader but sold it to someone local before it even got in the autotrader/top marques - typical, and now I keep getting call about the car.
Had the car over 4 1/2 years(ie from new) and I will miss it - especially the sound of the full decatted exhaust
Getting a STI8 PPP(hopefully in the next month or so if it ever arrives)

I've had the STI8 for 2 weeks now. Had the PPP fitted this Wednesday but I've still only done 650 miles so still taking it easy until I have the 1000 mile service done.
I was hoping that the PPP exhaust would be a bit louder. Does anyone else find it a bit quiet.
On the karting front, I rang Llandow today to ask about karting (the people in work want to try it there), but they still say that its just the 250cc single engine karts. If we are going to have any chance of getting twin engine karts it looks like it will have to be arranged through NWS (I assume that NWS knows the owner so has a bit of pull)
Can't wait till next Wednesday (1000 mile service)
