Default Help with brake problem

Took the car out today for the first time since before Christmas and it drove really well and for no apparent reason the brakes appeared to suddenly lock on,after struggling with it for a mile or so trying to find a suitable place to park it up i called for a recovery truck. The car is now back on my drive but the strange thing is If I release the hand brake I can push the car back and for so it appears that when the brakes are cool they seem ok. Anyone got any thoughts as to what might cause this to happen, any thing would be appreciated.Just to finish of a rubbish day when the car was being loaded on to the recovery truck it caught the front valance so after the the brakes are done its of to the bodyshop for fixing and painting
