advice needed
Guys im in need of some advice?
I can pick my new car up sunday afternoon ftom Nottingham and drive back to swansea but the car has had a new Heywood and Scott 3" downpipe fitted and has not been mapped for this mod.
The car in question is a 2001y reg bugeye uk300 with prodrive performance pack. Will I be safe driving it home or should I get it recovered back to my house for £270.
Also what is the best place to take it to and how much is a remap likely to cost to make it safe
Thanks in advance

Speaking as an ex owner of a MY00 Classic which had a turbo back Hayward and Scott full-decat system and no remap you'll be fine. The main reason for remapping is to increase the gains made from the exhaust modifications. The bugeye isn't that different.
You do however hear a lot of blown engine stories on here from new owners who have just bought a car and driven it hard from the outset. Mostly because the MAF sensor is on its last legs and they don't know it's an issue. If you value your new car then drive it home gently, book a check over with your local specialist, they'll be able to assess the fuelling etc. and advise you if it could do with mapping. Certainly wouldn't pay £270 to get it transported.

As it's a Newage and not a Classic I would be cautious. Why remove the excellent Prodrive Sport Cat? The PPP ECU was mapped to run a cat not catless, I would ask where it is and why remove it. A remap will ensure that the car is running the correct fuel, boost, and numerous other important parameters.
The MAF on a newage is stronger than the Classic and the engine are good if maintained well. If it was my money, £270 or a re-build.

Not sure why he removed it tbh. Acording to the brochure its a stainless steel muffler, larger intercooler pipe, and mapped more aggressive. Doesn't say about sports cats thats why im asking.
Buying the car but wont have the money for remap untill few weeks.

Speaking for experience rather than mechanical knowledge I'd just drive it back. Does seem a strange scenario to encounter though, seems like someone has removed a better system than they are selling you?
The main issue would be boost spike / running lean / detonation and possible going bang if driven hard. Are you going to be able to test drive the car properly and has this system been used as an excuse for issues that may or may not reveal themselves?
It seems odd to me
Dave.

I'm just concerned you may be being lured into a false security with this? I've seen many tricks to con innocent buyers, I'm certainly not suggesting this is one of them but when buying a performance car you really do need a good 20 minutes driving to include some hard driving to make sure all is well.
Is the seller going to ask you to drive like an old lady on test drive?A gentle 5 minute pootle won't show up a poorly head / head gasket nor a turbo about to die. Possibly a little over cautious but having travelled 100's of miles last week looking at several 'mint example' GTR Skylines I see all the tricks of the trade
Dave.

I have to echo what has been said above why would the seller fit a 3" downpipe (is it a sports cat or decat?) and then not bother to get it mapped before selling it?
It could overboost like buggery and potentially grenade the engine, you couldn't give it the beans on a test drive for fear of blowing the engine up.
I know I would walk away from it, have you actually bought it? Don't forget that even if you go to the car and it turns out to have underlying / undisclosed problems that you have the legal right to walk away from it if they haven't been fully publicised in the eBay auction listing.
I certainly wouldn't go up there and buy the car 'as you happen to be there', far cheaper to pay for a return train ticket than incur unknown future costs.

The ad states that the belts etc have been done recently, but by my reckoning this should have been the second time at least, 50k or 5 years as per the guides. I wonder if it's dropped a valve or the belts went twang?
Perhaps I am being too suspicious in my old age?

Just had a read up on the sellers feedback, he runs a car transport company collecting, as per ad, from Co-Part etc. I'd say this has been possibly been fooked then bought & repaired to sell on. I'm not suggesting that if it has then it hasn't been done properly but it's a private selling account so i'd say to be a little wairy of the work, if it hasn't been done well your mapping sesh will destroy it
Cars break, cars can be repaired, they can be repaired properly without issues and they can be repaired on a shoe string for maximum profit.
It seems (respectfully said) that you've already bought this car and will go ahead no matter what..........just take a minute to think about it as it could be a great buy or possibly a pig in a poke.
There are some great cars about to buy so don't purchase with your heart, use your head

Thanks guys for the heads up
I went and test drove it seemed tidy enough no knocks bangs or rattles went for a tidy test drive didnt throw up any warnings or warning lights, this is my 23rd car not the first car I have bought and 2nd scooby so not too nieve but the thing that I was worried about was the driving it back without it being mapped.
Seller was honest from start he is getting rid because he doesn't want to spend anymore it as he wants a zafira gsi as they have kids and doing renovations to the house which was obvious when I got threre. I left a deposit and now going back sunday to pay the balance. Jolly green monster says if I drive sensible I should have no problems and he will come to map it next thursday, which I wont use till then as I have a golf gti to get around in. I knew he was a transporter car is hpi clear and there are reciepts for all the work which will be checked thoroughly before I give any more cash. Will evaluate the situation on sunday and if I suspect anything untoward I will go and see another impreza classic further north.

Bought my 2005 Widetrack last year with exactly the same setup.
Drove it for last 4 months on Prodrive map with no issues whatsoever.
The Hayward and Scott sections were fitted by Xtreme Scoobies in Essex and they said to the previous owner that all would be ok.
Had it mapped yesterday by Indigo GT in Tredeger so I know 100% that its right now.
