i'm booking up a day at bruntingthorpe on saturday 16th march - its with "motorsport-events", whom i havent used before... (thats my disclaimer if it turns out to be a badly organised circus )

any other takers ? (go on, you know it makes sense...)

http://www.motorsport-events.co.uk

As an aside - last time i was at bruntingthorpe i collected a pigeon at around 120 taking out the front screen :0 But I have to say that if your going to have a moment this has got to be the place to do it, Lots of run off all the way round (apart from the huge cargo jet thing on the last corner )

Hi Jon,

One thing you can count on is a well organised and 100% professional day.

Looks like a very good mix of cars coming along and you will get lots and lots of track time.

Cheers,

Ed

I've done Brunters twice - both on Palmersport Corporate days - the last of which made we fall in love with the Scoobs - and I even won that event (out of 40 of us)and came 3rd in the Caterhams, although the rest of my perfomance wasn't much to write home about.

Quick plug for Palmersports - tremendously well organised, plenty of variety and no speed restrictors on anything you drive.

To anyone that's never done Brunters b4 this has to be one of the SAFEST circuits to drive your own or any car. You are going to have to be VERY unlucky or stupid to wreck it.

Hopefully I qualify as very unlucky, rather than stupid....

last time i was there I managed to connect with a pigeon at around 120. Front windscreen, dead centre - very very messy

I was at Bruntingthorpe yesterday, took the scoob to a Seat drivers club meet, lots of stones on the back straight causing lots of damage (most of us needing new windscreens and front end resprays, especialy the Farrari 360) also new cars storred on the straight and at the end of it meaning there was no run off if you brake to late, run wide or suffer brake failer, not sure how safe this is ?

Have spoken to our friends at Bruntingthorpe this morning and they said that they had been told Saturday was just a very small social event and not a track day.

I have a long association with Bruntingthorpe and the people that own the site are very honest, decent folk. Before our March 16th track day the track is being thoroughly swept and cars moved away from braking areas etc.

Cars can get stone chipped on the long straight, but during top speed runs we only allow one car on at a time, so this is not an issue and is also much safer this way.

Cheers all,

Ed

Chrispy,

Were you driving one of the P1's there?, i was in a red x reg Leon and was suprised at how little difference there was between the P1's and my leon?, were you pushing them?, were you the one that ran wide near the planes going inside the coned off area just after passing me??, just curious, i was expecting more form the scoobys!

What were your thoughts about the turbo'd seats?, how do you think they compared?

I was driving the silver wagon, some of the Seat's were very fast down the back straight but just couldn't get round the corner's, this speed was hardly suprising as I'm sure some of the car's have a better power to weight ratio and without the drag of the 4 wheel drive system, I know my mate's leon (which wasn't there because he's a TART) has about 210bhp and weighs about 1250kg, so once moving very fast.

I remember, that was the new shape wrx wasnt it?, even though the scoobys flew round the corners after two laps of following them (280Bhp p1's that is), they were only about 200 yds ahead, and they were pushing them too as i have spoken to one of the drivers there now,

I am looking into fitting stiffened lowered shocks and springs, and fitting stiffer anti roll bars and a strut braces too, it will be interesting to see how they compare on another track day then!

Oi Mosser

The reason you were only 200 yards behind is my poor driving and did't want you to feel too bad.

Doh, i wouldnt have minded if you had told me you were poor at driving!, and heres me now thinking that the P1 wasnt as fast as i first though it was!, i almost swapped my Leon for an old shape P1 a month ago, but i tested if for a few days and found i was only getting 22mpg, so decided to keep my leon, but i must say it was damn good fun to drive!, but very noisy on the motorways

My car's averaged just under 23mpg over 20k, so thats about dead on. (only 8mpg at Brunters tho)

Now if you remember the grey coloured 4dr STI, that is how quick you can go. However, I dont want to go off so go a little bit (only a little bit mind you) slower.

No seriously, I was impressed with the straightline speed of the Leons as I told you before. Much less in it than most people on this Board would probably realise

I wonder why theres so much difference in mpg between them then?, i am getting around 32mpg in my chipped leon driving just as quickly as i was in the P1?, does 4wd have big losses maybe?, do you know what sort of gearbox losses your car shows on a RR?, mine shows about 9% on average, apparently the 6 speed cable change VAG box is very efficient!

The last dyno run I did showed about 80 odd BHP losses. Dont know how accurate that is, but it is usually quite a lot with the 4wheel drive, diffs, etc.

The Subarus are notorious for running rich out of the box as well.

(thinks - hope some clever techy bloke will come up with the correct answer now )

Ta

Russ

That might explain why there wasnt that much difference between us then?, i am only loosing 20Bhp, leaving me with 191 at the wheels, which puts it at only 9 Wheel Bhp behind yours (assuming you got 280?), whats the torque like on your scooby?, mine is producing 225Lb/ft (300Nm)
