Anybody got any idea of what is a respectable lap time around the indy circuit in an Impreza with road tyres.

Well - not that anyone was actually measuring - but unoffically Pete C was doing 49s - bout the same as Phil Bennett in June... (BTCC Astra )

Forgot to say - Brands last year for SIDC was wet

I`m sorry but theres no way Pete was doin those times. Its impossible.
The superbikes only do early 40`s and the superstocks do 46`s.
On my bike I can do 52`s comfortably without risking a crash.
49`s in a Subaru however tweeked I have to say I think is impossible.
Which car was he in cos at Donington in Steve`s Skyline we passed Pete no problem.
Must mean it would do mid 40`s round Brands then eh

Birdy

Pete was driving his white 94 RA - lightened, stripped, welded, full rollcage, Leda C, APs, 280+ BHP etc etc...

Aparently 3 different people were unofficially tracking him & that was the time they separately recorded.

BTCC Astras are non-turbo, 2wd & around 210bhp & again lightened, welded etc etc & use the same brakes. Phil Bennett was doing 49s in June. Bearing in mind the extra grunt Pete had available to him...

I was a passenger in Pete's car (MY01) when you stomped passed him @ Donno. We vaguely followed making "wow!" noises & saw the TVR deciding to try & out-do you down Craner Predictable result but luckilly no damage or injury.

I was at Brands the week before watching the Touring Cars, thanks to Redstone. The Honda's was going around in 44 secs. And this was in the DRY. It might well have been possible in the dry, but not the wet/damp, which the conditions where for most of the day.

Not wanting to nit-pick but BTCC astras have 300 horses not 210, but all the same a 49 sec lap of brands is still impressive if true!

From some footage filmed on the day Pete was lapping in similar times to me, around 56-57 secs. I heard several people timed 49secs but don't know what they were using....egg-timer perhaps?

Simon, from memory Pete's RA that was at Brands was 'LIGHTLY' modified. Link, Hybrid, Leda C, AP 6 pot brakes, Roll Cage, etc. The car has very good handling abilities, being abil to out brake and out corner almost all of the cars on the day. Shame the top end is so low, but then it was built for rallying.

I was at Brands last year and the track was soaking wet.
Pete was getting his RA around in approximatley 57 seconds.
I was at the start/finish line with a stopwatch
I think his car was putting out about 330 bhp wasnt it!!!!!!
You must be able to take 5-7 seconds of in the dry!!!!!!
Come down AARON and have a look next week

Timing at SIDC events is strictly forbidden from now on, so please get your times from video footage in the future.

Birdy mate, calm down

I was in the 01 when we were at Dono together. At Brands, I was in

Although the car had huge grunt and a very short box (7000rpm at 126mph) it is suspension and cornering speed that account for good lap times. There aren't too many Imprezas that would keep with a Fiesta Credit Challenge car around a track. They have about 130bhp

The RA was more powerful than a BTCC car, used near identical suspension and brakes (700lb short springs, 6 pot AP's) but being 4 wheel drive, it would be on the power out of a corner earlier than a two wheel drive car. It was also a bit lighter than a BTCC car.

I also doubted the times people were giving me, but I do know it was extremely tiring to drive it flat out for anything more than a few laps, due to the loadings on your body.

Navtrak downloaded the GPS plots from my car for the last three months ( ) whilst at Brands, reckon they can work out my lap times, and are insisting on emailing them to me

If they look quite good, I shall post them (strictly in the interests of science), if they are crap I shall keep quiet and say it didn't work

But don't Touring Cars have 1 "little" advantage?

I think it's called downforce. Not sure though.....

I don't even think a WRC car would keep with a touring Car round track. So theres no way a Grp N ish one would be close.

This year's touring cars have aerodynamically ineffective wings (i.e. they're just there to look good) so no downforce

Very interesting thread. One very important fact not brought up yet in relpy though. Scoob's can corner, bikes.....cant

Sorry but, with respect, I get fed up with biker's giving it large in a straight line, then breaking like sh1te for a corner and getting in my way. I'd say the times have got to be about right. I did a 58sec in a 210 bhp R5GTT a few years back and that sure did'nt go round corners as good as my WRX.

Just been reading through this thread.

"white 94 RA - lightened, stripped, welded, full rollcage, Leda C, APs, 280+ BHP etc etc..."

49s is a seriously fast time for that car. Olly Clark managed a 50.166 last month in Time Attack final. I hear he has a fairly decent car

My best is 54s, I would guess at a standard car doing about 1m 5s

No offence Mikee , but that's impossible..... , last year i did mid 59's but with toyo's 888 coil's etc. 320 brakes, and Olly Clark did early 58's with his blobeye runing 340 brakes with Motec and R888.

U have to work hard get into late 50's with stock tyres

Just back from brands tonight did 59's in a stripped out Vauxhall nova 2L 150 bhp on R888's.

I am a member here because I am looking to buy an RA at the moment. This is the first year I have done track days, 5 now all in the nova and i feel i have hit a wall with it in terms of speed, I want a 4wd for power down out the corners and grip.

I am looking for an RA running around 330 350 bhp I am confident with this I would be able to get laps around 50 ish no problem if I can do 59's in a fwd nova that cost £1400!

Not a f'ing chance of you doing a 50 round brands indy with a 350bhp ra on R888's

Would be gobsmacked if you got remotely close on slicks.

Have a look here and make your own mind up.

To give you a clue, Olly Clarks Gobstopper has 700+ hp, and weighs 1100kg.
