Trackday insurance
#1
I am a track newbie and thinking of doing the Bedford Speed'n'Feed 2. I phoned Egger Lawson. Their prices look reasonable and have a plan for SIDC (£42.50 for £2000 cover, £80 for £5000 cover and £117.50 for £8000 plus many other alternatives)
Do people usually insure for the whole value of the car or a precentage of the value?
Does anybody know how the prices above compare to trackday policies from other companies?
Any help greatly appreciated.

As far as I could gather the majority of people seem to go for around £5000 worth of cover as most accidents are for minor dents to panels ,bumpers etc. I took out this level of insurance for the recent Croft track day for my £21000 new car and did not have any problems at all due in part to the excellent track etiquette of all on track. even those who spun off in the rain had no damage done (as far as I am aware). Buts thats insurance, you takes your choice and possible a chance , like I did.

I actually spoke to my insurer about the SIDC trackday and because there was no official timing/racing involved they said I was covered under social/domestic use. They said in effect I'm just driving on a private road with no speed limit, therefore not breaking the "racing/timetrails or pacesetting" clause in my contract. Bonus This was only valid for the SIDC trackday though as the SIDC state that racing/timing is not allowed, even personal timing is discouraged. I'm sure I'll get flamed now though

Charlie - did you speak to the insurance company, or a broker??
I would get it in writing from the insurance co before you go as most of them will not provide cover on track under standard policy terms.

Spoke to a wrx owning guy at my broker who contacted Axa to confirm then rang me back. I had all the contact details/names/times of broker/insurer in case of a claim but I suppose I should have got it in writing as well. I'll see what they say next time.
