Following on from the phenominally successful event a few weeks ago, I am pleased to announce that the club will once again be visiting the superb Bedford Autodrome on Friday August 10th.
It will run in a similar manner as the last one, only there will be no bbq on-site. Instead, we will be invading a local pub for the subsidised grub!!!
The cost of the event will be £100, the cost of the meal is tbc but will probably be just a fiver! The meal will of course be optional but I'll need to know numbers in advance. The meal seats will, like the track places, be first come, first served.
I will, as always, be saving some places for non-internetties.
If you snooze, you'll lose!

Stef.

Put me down for three meals(not all for me, before some smart alec chips in).

I'm taking two prospective subaru buyers who would very much appreciate a few passengers laps

Question

Is Bedford a good place for the first outing for a track newbie?

Is very hard on tyres? Is it worth organising a set of part worns for on track and keeping your road set fresh?

Cheers,

ChrisB.

Don't normally disagree with Dave T-S but having done BA twice now, I was impressed with the lack of wear that I got on my tyres The only time I got significant wear was when Dave T-S blagged a passenger ride when running o/size slicks & this caused them to snag on the arches OK once I'd dumped him out

Diggy.
Spectators are allowed, no charge.

Rikki.
Drivers briefing will be at approx 4pm.
Wear on discs/pads depends on what discs/pads you have and how hard you use them.
If you've got decent pads in and don't overcook them you should be fine. There'll be emergency replacements there anyway.
For insurance, try Eggar on 0115 9415255.

Stef

What time would we need to be there?

I have never done a track day, could somebody tell me what the wear on discs/pads is as I can't afford to be replacing them at the moment?

Anybody know a good place for trackday insurance (I presume we need it)?

Thanks
Rikki

So the general consensus is that Bedford is a good beginners circuit as long as you don't take Dave T-S out?

I have just had some new Tar-Ox Drilled/Grooved discs and pads fitted. How many track days roughly + road use would these last - 2, 3 or would need some more pads/discs after one track day?

Tsk tsk - how did I let this one go for two days???

Are you saying I am a fat barsteward Puff??

Well, I blobbed a set of RE010's, but maybe that was because I was conserving my standard brakes by chucking the car in the tight bends sideways to slow it down LOL

All,

Did a corporate driving day at Bedford last week, and I feel that it would be fine for begineers. Not sure what track you'll be using, but they're all fine. Absolutely brilliant day, please see link for details of tracks

Phill, the circuit we used last time was the south-west. Good circuit, great company, ALMOST! and then a barbie. This time we're going to a local pub by the sounds of it.

As for coming along, just turn up. I dont know if there is any spaces left... STEF!

Friends are always welcome, and if you've got a skid lid bring it along and blag a ride or two.

South Circuit hey, I found that quite tricky last week, but I wasn't able to drive the car properly or at least didn't have time to get used to it.

I drove the Lotus Exige, Audi S3 and the Honda S2000 on this circuit. All left hand bends, so maybe everyone should use their normal road tyres!!!

I must say that I reckon I could drive faster and my car was faster than all the above cars. Chatted to the Instructor, and he said the Scooby would be faster.

I really hope I can book a place, but if I can't I'll bring my helmet with me.

Cheers, Phill C.

Babber.
Sorry chap, I haven't had any mail from you.
Anyway, it's an SIDC day and open only to SIDC members. The event will certainly sell out so unfortunately your friend with the R5 won't be able to drive on the track. Anyone is welcome to turn up and watch though.
If you want to reserve a place mail me again.
Oh, and it's the South-West circuit which is the next one down in size from the full GT track.
And our events are not just open to a 'select' crowd, unless the SIDC is considered select?

Unhappy

Stef

Sent you a mail about this event over a week ago but still haven't had a reply, also there is a question for you above re: pad wear I would be happy for you to answer.

Are there any places left still?

How much is insurance very roughly - £20, £100??

Thanks
Rikki

Stef,

I understand that you need to be a SIDC member and intended on joining this weekend at Tileys open day , in Bristol. If that isn't acceptable can I pay and join now ?

I'm prepared to pay with my credit card, as I very keen to drive this circuit. With standard everything, so I guess I won't be out there for that long. I hope you get this email (I'm using the email address supplied from the BBS) and we can get something arranged.

Many thanks Phill.

P.S. Sorry to hear about the drama with CK1. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Rikki.
Sorry, I've replied to all the mails I've had.
I'll reserve you a place, but mail me again.
Regarding brakes, how long they last depend on a number of factors; what pads/discs you use, how hard you brake, whether you allow sufficient cooling time before sessions, etc.
If you're using a decent pad with your discs and you limit your laps on track then there's no reason why the pads shouldn't last a couple of track events at least. The same apllies to the discs, but if you over-heat them they may well warp.
It's all about temperature really. As long as you keep within the operating temps of the discs and pads you have you'll be fine. Exceed these and the discs will warp and the pads disintegrate.
Speak to others and see what combo's people are using when you're there.

Stef.
