Not much close to Surrey.

Try

SIDC track days - although there don't seem to be many of those nowawadays

Trackzone@Donnington about £150
Willie Green@Donnington about £250
Easytrack - lots of airfield days plus Donnington, Brands and Silverstone
Bookatrack - as above
RMA - regular sessions at Bedford - £245 - lots of track time - but up against Porks and Ferraris

Allow for a set of brake pads and best use very well worn rubber as this wears less than new rubber - or get second hand slicks - I have over a dozen and have paid about £25 on average

Insurance - you can try your own insurance company - I am with Norwich Union and pay £80 for the full value of the car - or Egger Lawson - track specialists.

Other than that - get out there - take your time - don't try too hard at first and enjoy. Well worth getting a few laps with an instructor - it made a huge difference to my driving!

PS Do an oilchange before you go using the best 15/50w oil you can afford - and an oil and filter change straight afterwards.

After attending Donny I really want to go the track.

My mate who runs a 300BHP Turbo MR2 has been challenging me since I got my scoob a few months ago. We wanted to go on the track somewhere close to Surrey but don't know much about it costs, how to arrange it, tyres, insurance etc.

Anyone help?

Cheers

I live in Surrey and depending where you live Goodwood and Brands are the best. Costs vary enormously. Easytrack are a good start and cost about £100 less than Trackfun who are based at Goodwood. But there are loads and loads of trackday companies - just check how many on track at one time and what session system they work on (sessions or open pitlane). That often decides the cost.

Tyres, brakes etc depend totally on yr driving style - some get through a set of tyres per day yet others last for 3 or 4 days. But your standard brakes will not last on a Scooby. Better pads is a start but really uprated discs and pads are necessary. Again look at the correct forum as costs vary alot.

Suggest you book one up and go along and check out what everybody else does.

I think youll find all the info you need on the web. Try bookatrack, easytrack and pistonheads.com for starters.

If you're a track newbie I recomend reading guides and speaking to others whove already done it. Also suggest insurance the first time out (or always??) but pick tracks with lots of run off ie Donnington or Silverstone - or maybe consider an airfield day.

You want to have as much fun as possible but at the same time looking after yourself and your car as well. When you go, you should strongly consider taking up the "pro drivers " time which youll find at most trackdays - hell sort out your bad habbits, make you safer etc

If you want to run slicks can you usually get them put on and taken off at the tracks or do you need to take another set of rims

not really. Only SIDC days that I've been to offer this service, others like bookatrack and easytrack don't. you are left on your own so need to swop your own wheels, add pressure etc.

Not entirely true... if anyone has ordered some tyres for the day then the tyrefitter will be there and will swap tyres for you.
