Hi all
As many of you will be aware I had a spin yesterday at Craners, went accross the gravel pit backwards and hit the tyre wall. Good news is that both myself and TNY5W are fine. The car however, may not be back on the road for a couple of weeks.
I'd like to thank the Donington safety crew for being there so quick, and the guys that stayed behind with me afterwards in the pits to sort the car.
This is a risk we all take when going on track and it certainly brings it home to you how easy it happens when you think everything is going well.
Enough of the gloomy stuff though, main thing is we are both OK, and I will hopefully see you all again soon with the scoob as shiny as new.
Thanks again to all those that helped out (in many ways)

Hi Blue
Glad to hear you are OK and hope your wife didnt take it toooo badly!
Like we all said, the car can be repaired or replaced, as long as you and your passenger are ok, that the main thing. Sorry we couldn't do any more to help get the car 'running'.
Look forward to seeing your car back on form.

Glad to hear you're ok. Seeing your car was very, very sobering - hope you get it fixed up. I feel lucky to have survived my track outing in one piece.

Wasnt there yesterday, but glad you are OK. Having been down Craner the wrong way once myself, it certainly shakes you a little, fortunatly for me it was only my pride which was hurt, but havent taken Craners flat since.

Hi all
Thanks for the support, its good to know there are many friends out there.
The car is now in the garage, but may be a few weeks. My mate has a Fiesta for sale, so if you see someone waving franyically at you from a Fiesta its me.

Glad your ok, will you change the way you drive in the furture?
There's a question as stated, it is a very sobering thought when you look at the car.
What happened? I still can't say what was different in the way I approached and went through Craners, although I had been through all day and was maybe moving faster by the end of the afternoon. The car started to drift slightly on the exit of the bottom left hander, then the rear started to came round. full opp. lock had no effect. Went side ways accross the grass and realised we were going into the gravel. Tried to get the rear end in straight, but no time/space left and being unsure of exactly which way the front wheels were at that pointing I think it was a case of wait for the impact!! Went back to get the car yesterday and had a walk down, and I was surprised at how little the distance was - It seemed to last an age in the car !!

PS Scrap - my wife was fine about it, shes just glad we're OK.

Blue,
This is how I remember it as a passenger so IMHO...
We did two warm up laps (on slicks) and gradually built up speed. On Fifth lap entered craners at simular speed and line as last two laps. We got some oversteer exiting Craners, some opposite lock applied car felt stable with correction, then the tail started to go lighter and whip around, full opposite lock. Once we hit he grass, Fom then on we were both passengers.
Please remember a passenger veiw piont not an instructors and would jump into the passenger seat with Blue tommorow if I had chance

Who'd be driving
Glad you're both OK, had been going to ask to blag a ride too but you were always out when I was around - next time.
Would the loss of traction be more to do with the slicks than anything else? What I was told when I first started using them is that they were great until they let go & then it was just to hold on & hope
Anyway, I'd just been about to go out for the last 25 mins when that happened - not a problem as I shouldn't really have gone out for the 20 min sesh as under prepared with wrong tyres & no insurance.
See you at the next one

Slicks letting go could have been the reason ?? Maybe Rob Mac could get hold of some 'official' footage and assess it. It would be good for all of us to fully understand what went wrong so it doesn't happen again.
T5NYW - You're either very brave or mad Its your turn to drive next time, I did all the driving at Bedford as well !

Blue.
You were on slicks?????
Yipes, I didn't realsie that! God knows what happened there then, slicks certainly shouldn't have gone off after just five laps. The one danger using slicks is that if the car ever does break away (I've never had it happen using slicks myself) it breaks away with a lot more anger as is much harder to recover from.
Still, I too have 'been there and done that' as no doubt some of you will remember. The main thing is that we're all still here having a chin wag about it.

i too have been there done that on Craner (as a passenger) last year.....frightening!
not too sure if i'd get back in a car with the SAID driver! lol (Joke:- Martin)
but it does make you look at your driving when you get back on track!
on Sunday i only did the two 20min sessions...the first session i used to 'feel my feet' on the track again...second session i quickened up..but took bends a lot steadier than ever b4!
every time i went down Crainer, i had a sort of flash back to the time i came off there!
only did 85mph down there this time..b4 i'd done 100+ with not apprehentions! this time was differant!
NEXT time will be a lot differant!
Glad your both ok though...don't le it put either off you off Donno again.

Phil, I saw the whole thing from Mellow's car, the lost of traction, half spin, grass going every where, gravel going every where, the car slamming into the tyres, glass flying around and you bouncing round in the seat
I can still see my mates crash too, he rolled a 306 in front of me
I don't think either accident would ever put me off driving but in a sick sort of way, seeing things like this is a good thing, it makes you realise cars aren't perfect, you might not always get to where you want to go.
