Well it appears my hawkeye has developed the impreza suspension clunk from the passengers rear shock.

The cars still under warranty so getting it fixed shouldn't be an issue. My question is, do I just have the OEM shock fitted or would it be best to try and negotiate with the garage to get coilovers fitted instead?

I have exactly the same problem. I bought my car on Thursday from a main none Subaru dealer and there is lots of clunking coming from the rear, there appears to be no movement in the rear suspension when I try to push the body down. The car feels like sitting in a jelly unless I'm going over 40mph. It has an AA warranty but that states that any fault on the car when sold is not their responsibility. The mechanic today (via the garages secretary) said it is the responsibility of the AA as I am so far away from the garage (over 150 miles) and cant bring the car in.

Have you actually had agreement from your warranty provider that they will repair the car?

 

I haven't as of yet. I need to get the car booked into the garage to get it looked at first. Although it is the Subaru warranty so I'd have thought it should be ok.

When your trying to figure out which corner it is, try lifting the car rather than compressing it. That's how I figured out where it was on mine. Obviously the clunk isn't as loud but you can still hear it.

 

If its the Subaru approved warranty you may struggle to get it replaced as classed as wear and tear. I will be interested to hear your experience.

 

So would I be right in thinking aftermarket shocks would be a reasonable permanent fix?

 

Yes they would, I would guess you will have issues getting Subaru to cover the fitting tho.

 

I've also developed a clunking rear end on my Hawk. The KYB shocks that scooby clinic sell, would I be ok just changing the rears to them or would the fronts also need to be done?

 

I will keep you up to date with how I get on. Initially my warranty company said the fault was not their responsibility as it was there when I purchased the car. After the garage spoke to the warranty company, the warranty company have accepted responsibility. The car is booked in for Monday for an inspection with another garage. I have been warned by the garage doing the inspection that it can be a very long drawn out process.
I'd like to know what are considered the best replacement shock absorbers and are they better than the original Subaru parts? Are they cheaper as maybe the warranty company will accept an alternative if it saves them money, I guess not.

My car doesn't have a Subaru warranty and won't be inspected at a Subaru garage either.

 

I have the same issue with my hawk sti rear shocks what is the best solution to this? Need my handling back feels to bouncy

I resolved this buy buying a full set of standards shocks from matty on here which had got 10k miles onit

 

got a set of genuine jdm sti hawk full set front and back complete with springs only done 16k pm

 

I am being told that an 06 hawky onwards can only take scooby shocks.Ionly need to replace the rear and they say kyb wont fit anyone any suggestions?
