Default How much caster? Work to do before alignment.

Evening.

2001 Bug wrx

Plan to do the free caster mod, have bought the caster bushes to fit, maybe bolt the arms as far forward as the go and fit whiteline com c top mounts. Used just for a road car.

Will this be too much extra caster? Im no expert.

Want to get all work done and alignment done before my new tyres go on.

Thanks for any advice.

I'll be doing the same to my bug wrx in the next few weeks, except for the caster bushes.

Is there a How To for the free caster mod? I understand it, but just wanted to double-check before I go past the point of no return LOL .

Hi all.
I just done this on my wife,s 2002 bugeye. new bilstein shocks, 24mm front and rear roll bars. cdf drop links. poly bushed everything. turned the front arm rear pin over, and bolted it back together, then a trip to power station for align.
wow.the difference is amazing.

post up your alignment sheet. we'd love to see how much caster you gained.

hmm, you might have to host the scan on a server to upload. Otherwise, perhaps just type out your results. That's fine too. Just a little more work.

front castor after the mod is,
left = +4.20'
right = +4.23'

i will try and put full print out, soon as i can work it out.

Great! You gained almost a degree of caster over standard. Standard is 3.35'.

Hi ARNIE1.
Yea , i did make up spacers to fit between bottom pin, but on powerstation advise didnt fit um.
the handling is transformed the car now, cost a small fourtune to do mind, but the standard suspension was to say the least TIRED,
well worth the effort tho, fully polybushed has added bit more noise, but wife just rev,s it harder, ha ha

well you did drop in a load of new parts. not cheap but the car drives better than new and is much more fun. tighter front end, more steering weight and feel. all good stuff. plus better rotation in the corners. enjoy!

YEP at the time the wife was going mad by how much I was spending on it. I just kept telling her , wait and see love,
after spending ££££ and then having powerstation set it up. ( these people are the best ) the car is transformed.
as I live in wales (uk), we have ideal roads to be able to use all of the suspension tweeks that has been done to her, handles like on rails now,

besides, think of the money spent as normal maintenance. On a 12 year old car you would need to refresh bushings, dampers and bits and bobs. The only real upgrade you did were the ARBs, the rest can be considered periodic maintenance. even having the geometry done is something that most people do annually or every two years. Now the car is good for another decade! just make sure you keep the rubber side down. A good handling car and AWD is no substitute for talent and good judgement. It is so easy to vet carried away with one's driving when a car feels like its on rails. Even trains go off the rails some times. Enjoy and be careful out there.

Ive had some 10mm spacers made for the control arms. Will 10mm spacers, offset caster bushes and flipping the rear pin be too much? Dont want to ruin the handling?

The 10mm spacers and longer bolts didnt cost so Im not too worried if they are used.

Hi Cubbs..
i had 6mm and 10mm spacers made up to fit. but on powerstation advise, no need to fit, just turn pin thru 180, as any more was to extrem for road use,
like i said in previous post, our car now handles like on rails, with the mods i carried out. hope this is of help. scoobymike

I turned the pin through 180 and fitted 6mm spacers, BC top mount swapped sides
then set for max caster and got 6.39 and 6.58 degrees caster, this is for trackdays only

My grip and corner speed has improved a lot, (not just the castor mod) compared to the standard setup, so far all the mods have shown some gains. It is much trickier
to keep improving with my ordinary set up and driving skills, but I'll keep trying

Got a problem.

Fitted the offset caster bushes.
Flipped pin.
Set tracking.

The oem front arb is sat on the lower bolt of the whiteline alloy droplink. Can anyone help? The arb and droplink are all in correct position, not upside down or any **** ups.

Have i really added too much caster?

Flip the pin back to original position? Slide mounts further back? But the americans add up to 16mm plates on their forums! With no mention of arb hitting anywhere.

must be something daft?
