P1 suspension difference compared to standard uk2000 turbo
Could someone let me know the differences between P1 suspension (struts and springs) compared to standard (99 classic). Things like Stiffness and Ride height? Etc..
Thanks

I could be wrong but I always thought the P1 had the same set up as the Type R. So STI shocks and springs. Which are better than a standard UK 1999 car (assuming you are talking about a UK car).
Just done some googling and apparently prodrive softened the P1 for uk roads over the type r.The shocks are the same as the uk models, but the springs are a bit stiffer.
This kind of makes sense as my mates standard P1 is quite a bit softer than my type R,which is also standard. His shocks aren't the STI reds, they're black.
Looking at my mates p1 history the shocks look like original ones with no receipts for them ever being changed.
Hope this helps.
Danny.

With the ride height I'm not sure, couldn't find anything but I'm sure I've read on here somewhere that the P1 is 10mm lower than the uk.I just can't find it.
Hopefully someone else can confirm.

.The P1 setup is arguably the perfect balance for all-round use on our roads, and a BIG step forward over the standard UK kit

Didn't know Subaru ever offered a "Factory Bilstein Coilover" option?
Have a WR Brochure in front of me and the only suspension upgrade is the Bilstein/Eibach upgrade (Part No SACC2139) and is only listed for the 4 dr and is not a "Factory Option"
Can anyone verify?

Come and check mine out then. They have a Subaru Part No on them
A P1 damper and 'Prodrive' (made by Eibach) spring

Close up of part number detail

The red coloured Prodrive spring is a lowering spring developed for the P1, tweaked for UK roads. They lower the Impreza by 1"
The 'P1' dampers are the same as fitted on the V5/6 STi's (imports obviously). Made by KYB they perform a very decent job of things OE ones, not to be confused with the after market KYB's which are twin tubed). They are mono tubed inverted as opposed to the black dampers which are twin tubed uprights. Combined with the P1 springs they are brilliant for B-road use (ask my mate who's been out with me on a 120 mile hoon with me today
). In fact they were my upgrade choice for a Type R recently bought, over and above coilovers. KW V3 would be an comparable performer
The springs on the import STi's are indeed firmer, to the point of being manic. I owned a V3 Type R STi. The 'P1 set-up' gives excellent feedback, faultless control, and works as a synergy, better than coilovers (have tried Eibach superstreets). Greater compliance too for UK roads

There was a Prodrive Bilstein variant. Arguably better (slightly) than the 'red' set-up

Here's the car sitting on the P1 set-up

Had the p1 eibach spring with KYB shocks on my uk turbo a while back and they were spot on .
Great ride height only slightly lower than standered but could definatley feel it when cornering felt alot stiffer and flatter into the corner, wasnt really a hard ride with them but signifcantly stiffer.
Just as i removed them before selling them on

The shocks look as old as the rest of the car.his are progressive springs but the shocks don't have any obvious logo on them.
He's running 17's and I'm running 16's and mine's quite a bit firmer.
Didn't know the springs were Eibach.I'm kind of tempted to try some.my old Evo had Tein super street coil overs and they were really harsh. These type r springs are almost as bad.
Can anyone confirm if the type r v5 springs should be red or black?
Reason I ask is my springs are black.I'm wondering if something firmer's been fitted.
Here's a pic of under mine.sorry for the crap photo, but you can just see the bottom of the shock. It's definately the standard shocks.

I dont have any experience of the red shocks to make a comparison I'm afraid.

P1 18" wheel upgrade Part No: SACC6021G
P1 Rear exhaust silencer Part No:SACC6028
P1 Gas discharge driving lamps Part No: SACC6022
P1 Recaro interior: Part No SACC6023
Also of interest is SACC2139: Bilstein Suspension upgrade, no sign of any "Coilovers" though?
Prodrive blue springs too. Blue was the original colour, now they're red, although sold as 'original Prodrive P1 springs'

Yep, blue springs and I think mine came from a '98 car.
Hi guys - could someone tell me - I'm looking at buying the P1 shocks and springs off a listing that has now ended on eBay. They are 4 red springs and red struts but one of the struts is black as he had to replace it recently. Why would it be black? How would I know he had bought the proper strut and not a cheap copy or incorrect replacement?

I have Type R version 5 (1999) on going project.
I seem to be going round in circles and I think a few of us are chasing the same Shocks & springs. Just to clarify does anyone know if or where you can get old P1 set up but new?
If not what else out there is recommended for fast road use BC tein etc?

i have V6 sti shocks and springs on my wrx, they are a huge difference over stock. ive fitted Hks springs which have sat it around 10mm lower than the stock (black) sti springs and a tad softer so id say similar to the P1

Nice page here with spring rates of a lot of different stock and aftermarket suspension setups, including the P1:
