Default PLEASE HELP, Coilovers what to get???????

Ive read quiet a few threads on hear with regards to coilovers and suspension. I am in love with my 2005 STI Blobeye, has a 20G turbo and FMIC from harvey smith, with his ported headers and up-pipe, it goes like a rocket.
My suspension is still standard in every way , i know this isnt good!!!
I would like to keep doing whats best for my car BUT like everyone i like value for money too!!! Not just going to spen £2000 on something if its only just better than say BC Racing coilovers!!
As i like fitting things on my own car im going to try do this myself rather than send it to Harvey!

Please help me get the best for my car

KW Varient 3's are a very very good set up from memory would prob cost around £1200, if you dont want to spend that much then go for the BC's they are good value for money with excellent after sales support.
If you are thinking of KW's give Alyn at AS performance a ring he will be able to advise you and give you some quotes.

Fitting the coilovers yourself is a doddle just organise to get the geometry done as soon as possible after fitting them.

Fitting coilovers can often result in a much harsher ride and you feel all the imperfections on the road surface. Some people spoil their cars going this route so unless you are prepared for a harsher ride this may not be your best option. As an alternative consider fitting Eibach springs which is relatively inexpensive but does improve the road holding.

I have KYB Ultra struts all round with prodrive springs on the road car and they are a bit firmer than standard but not overly so. The problem with the standard strut set up is the rears are made of chocolate and will end up knocking. I have been through two sets of standard rears and one set of rear KYB Ultra's (KYB also make the standard struts). The car is a 55 plate blobeye with 40K miles, its not abused so in theory it should never have had so many rears struts. Thats the main reason so many people go to coilovers but as Harvey says depending on what type you buy and what the spring rates are then they can be harsher than standard.

Eibachs on oem shocks is fine. I ran my 03 WRX for years and miles like that. The only reason they came off was that the two fronts were broken due to all the bloody speed humps, etc they go over. I didnt think that moving to Eibach coilovers would be that different but it is. As above, think very carefully about coilovers. There is a big difference from me going from Eibach springs and oem shocks to Eibach coilovers.

I'm in a similar problem. I was going to fit EXE-TC fast road coilers which had nothing but good comments, but they've been discontinued

So I'm refreshing the standard shocks with KYB ultra SR, £400 for a full set and about three hours labour to fit I've ordered the STI lateral links and trailing arms, which should complement the Whiteline 22mm front and rear ARB's and anti lift kit already fitted.

I think this set up will suit my lack of mechanical sympathy when it comes to speed humps and the bad finish on country roads.

I have KYB Ultra's and STI prodrive springs on my blobeye road car and they are a little harder than standard but work pretty well given the price.

i bought the BC coilovers and they are awesome, best money ive spent for the car!!

i live in the IOM and the roads here are NOT smooth and i was worried about it being crashy and too harsh but with full adjustability they are awesome..... Sccobyworld set mine up 10 from hard and i would say they were just stiffer that std sti, i run mine now at 3 from hard.

I have AST coilovers fitted to my RB5, cost me around £1500 and have to say they are the best money i have spent on the car, not harsh at all and the car handles brilliantly, well worth the money.

Bought an 05 sti blob there in January and have been in two minds since as to what suspension to fit, thought about H+R springs or Teins but they're £220+ for either so I have now started looking into the BC/APEX group buy on here which are in and around £600 delivered, which to me seems great value and feedback from people with them fitted has been very good

Just cant warrant spending £1500+ on AST's for the blob as its my second car and its a fair amount of cash....will probably be getting the BC's this week all being well if the group buy is still on....

I was shocked how cheap they were, I heard the standard Subaru replacements were £300 a corner and made by the same company .
