Anyone done fast road geometry on standard setup?
Hi all,
As above really. I have 2006 wrx and I'm looking for fast road geometry settings to take to the garage and get setup.
The car is running standard shocks and springs, so I guess I will be limited to settings will I?
Anyone know the settings they used and were impressed with. The car is running on 17" wheels.
Thanks In advance for your help.

a fast road setup will improve the cars feel and reduce understeer. The tolerances manufacturers accept are massive compared to those of a proper setup. you will be amazed how much better the car feels. HAve you changed your rear ARB yet?

No not changed it yet, everything is still standard just now.
I've got a garage line up to source one and fit it and they will be doing the geometry aswel.
I was just wandering what settings I should look for or if I should just let them do their own.
Thanks for the reply!

do a search, there are 2 x groups settings that come up a few times, Prodrive and I think Whiteline. Yes it did make a big difference for me, not least because unless the car has been reset to standard recently, its probably all over the place anyway. I just set mine somewhere in the middle of the 2 settings, they're really not that different.
On my 2004, I had to fit adjustable camber bolts at the back, and replace a seized adjustable toe bolt at the back. I could get the right camber at the front with standard bolts.
In my opinion, full geo can normally be justified on any car purely from the fact it will reduce tyre wear. For example I found wear on the outer edge of the fronts is reduced with more camber (fairly obvious really)

I have spoken to Prodrive recently who seem to think that you can not apply the Prodrive geo settings to a standard set up. To be honest I got the impression that the guy I spoke to was struggling to either keep to a script or was lacking in basic English skills so Im not sure I believed what he was saying.

When I asked the guy at the garage, they said they use the prodrive settings. To which I replied " even with the standard setup". And he said yes.
I think prodrive would say that as they are trying to sell the product also if you don't have their setup.
But even somewhere close to that setup must be better than standard.
Thanks for the reply though and I will ask the garage on Monday.

Im sure thats why they said that, however they actually said you cant use prodrive settings on a standard set up albeit with no conviction. It doesnt give me any confidence in Prodrive. I will often test a company before buying products that I may need to rely on with aftersales, e.g. how forthcoming they are in helping you when there is no financial gain. It often tells me where their passion lies, i.e. in the business they are in or just business.
If two products are similar I would always go with the most helpful company.
Sorry to go off topic. I think if you can go somewhere in between that would be good. After all you gain better handling than standard and less inside tyre wear.

I will be getting mine done at HDC Subaru Hebdon Bridge. The guy they use has been doing it for 40 years and sets up race cars using the string method. Howard showed me a log of records he writes down for his car and the perfection and attention to detail has to be seen.

I had the basic set up done and it was good. Only got charged around £30 as only one wheel needed doing (as I suspected). I asked about the Prodrive set up and he was not familiar with that. He set it to what was in his opinion the best set up.
The guy sets up Howards racing Impreza which is designed to go at ridiculous speeds and stop ridiculously quickly. With the amount he has spent on that car I dont think he would be compromising at all on the wheel geometry set up. The guy who does it though spends less and less time in England so its best to give them a call to a) discuss your requirements and b) to see if he is still available.
