I have just had fitted to my MY98 Turbo wagon a set of Eibach progressive rate springs. The problem is that the front drivers side spring keeps making a knocking noise, as if it is just about to pop out of the strut. I brought it back to the garage and he stripped the strut back down and re-fitted the spring. It seemed to be fine for about five minutes and then the same thing happened again, banging noises when I hit a bump and when stationary when I lock the wheels from side to side. Has any one ever had this problem, I am going back to the garage on Tuesday so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Alan

Alan,
It sounds as though the spring top mount is not where it should be, therefore it is hitting the tower when turned or going over a bump, it's important to get them where they should be, otherwise the spring doesn't go up and down right.
Ron,
With Eibachs fitted!

my standard car makes similar noises to this too.connot find anything slack and cannot decide if it's the suspension or possibly the brake pads moving.I also get a slight click/clunk from brake/suspension area on lift off sometimes, only really noticed at low speeds.do any of you get this?

I have exactly the same symptom on my Ford Focus - I'd be very interested if anyone can explain how to stop it...

Hi Guys

sounds like Ron is on the money! .. A misplaced Top mount would give these symptoms. If you call i can put you through to someone who knows what they are talking about.. (ie not me .. Glenn or Lindsay ) and they will happily talk you through it!

Cheers

Glen at TSL put me right last week when I had this problem.

It's the top mounting plate (the one that sits on top of the spring) it's got a hole on one side, if you feel on top of the plate, it's on the the raised part NOT the dip where there are 2 more drain holes.
The hole needs to be on the outside (lined up with the lower mounting bracket.

Don't call Trouser he'll only laugh at you as everyone does it.

Iain.

Basically, the top spring mount has a bolt hole in it the that the strur goes through, this hole is not in the centre of the mount, therefore if you get it in the place when you bolt it all up, seeing as it turns with the steering, it could foul on the suspension tower, and as this also rubber mounted it can move a bit when not even turning the steering, the moral of this story is----- mark them b4 you remove them, then put them back so that the marks line up.
