Hi mate
it sounds like you have the dreaded Suspension knock it seems to happen more than not
I don't think it affects the performance of the car just very annoying. there are a few threads on here about regressing the shocks but its only a temporary thing, I have a 2006 STI and i have had 2 done under warranty 1 front 1 back and now the other back has started knocking
If you have a spare £1000.00 down the back of the sofa you can get a good set of coil cover fitted and set up

Sounds like one of the rear struts failing mate, common problem on a few newage models. Changed them on my 05 STI last year.

Mine felt like driving on a 50p when going slowly.

52 plate sti - now had 5 nearside & 3 offside shockers replaced. if your car is out of warranty ring subaru uk & ask for phil evans. my last replacememts were done (last week) on a goodwill claim thanks to him.

Shouldn't fail unless there is leakage from the damper. I would have to agree with the previous comments, replacement is the best option rather than re-greasing them. I had the same problem on my '05 WRX and Subaru quoted me £280 EACH!! I had a set of BC coilovers from Bren at Apex for about £650 delivered. Totally transformed the handling and poise of the car and an easy DIY fit - took about an hour and a half and a bit of sweating and swearing There are loads of threads on here about BC coilovers.

Good luck with it.

i had this on my 51 plate sti uk. sticking rear passenger, changed all round for bc coilovers, best option in my eyes, know too many that have replaced for new sti shock and had them fail soon after,
i used to grease mine every couple of days but soon got fed up of it.
give steve a call at unit 8, tell him shawn said lol.
cheers, shawn.

Check your drop links too.

There was an article on here a while back, to fix the shock problem you actually have to take it off and strip the shock, clear out the old hardened grease then re-fill it and put it back together.

The BC coilovers come as a full set of 4. You could try the regreasing method but it ain't an easy job and they will fail again sooner or later - my local scooby mechanic says there is a definite design fault in the originals.
