Default Newage Coilovers - Which?

I'm toying with the idea of getting some coilovers, as I had a real hard drive at the weekend, and something just didn't seem right in the corners at speed.

I've supposedly got on my car already:
Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit
Front & Rear Anti-Roll Bars
Front & Rear Strut Braces
Spec C Suspension

So to me the next best thing would be Coilover??!!

Seems like people are using Tein Super Street.....which I like the idea of the remote electronic control.

Or BC

I've been told the Tein's are prone to leaking after a short while?

What does everyone else use/recommend?

Thanks

BC are good, but no toys.... my pal has TEIN SS on his Ev* and I thought, they'll do for my "toy" too.

What do you mean BC are good but no toys mate?

Are Tein ok then, as my mate who said they leak has an Evo, so don't know if he's heard it from them....(that the seals leak, and is hard to get replacements)

Inverted...

Traditinal dampers have the fluid in the lower housing and the damper rod out the top with the top connection on its end, inverted turns this upside down, it reduces unsprung weight (so the spring/damper has less unsprung mass to control).

Do they work a lot better being inverted?

Are the Tein SS inverted, and the same as the BC RM Series? (except for the electronic control).

Roger Clark suggested them to tame the 400 odd BHP LOL

I've got a set of brand new Eibach pro-street coilovers in the garage....but you are better off with the Spec C set-up than those

TBH the Spec C set up should keep the wheels on the road provided the geometry is OK.. What wheels and tyres do you have as I have found they make a huge diffence to the ride, certainly on the crappy roads near me?

If you *really* want to ruin the handling I've got a set of 19" Kahn RSV's in the garage you could fit LOL

hehe, think 19's would ruin it a bit. I've just got the standard gold STI wheels on, with Eagle F1's.

I'm not 100% sure what the 'Spec C' is though to be honest. As I've just got a receipt from when I bought that car. Not sure if it's just springs or the whole lot. Looking at them, I think the springs were Pink...not sure what this means.

I've not had the geometry check to be honest, as I was going to get it done when I got the coilovers on.

I used to run AST Sportlines, same as Litchfield Type 20's and the first Type 25's (newer ones got the 3-way Competition kits). Excellent IMHO.

My advice is that if you're going with adjustable dampers, you really should get the Teins with EDFC. Once you start fiddling with suspension, you realise what a black art it is and you will want to make adjustments. The novelty will soon wear thin if you have to start faffing around under the bonnet and with the rear parcel shelf each time.

Love the understatement

They work 'OK' for me too.

Actually who am I kidding, if you are considering coilovers get the best - EXE-tc. Perfect for both road and track duties. If you buy cheap, you will only regret it and have to spend out again in the future.

Don't have that sort of budget, sob !

Toys = edfc !

Mine's in the bodyshop for it's seven year makeover.... TEINS on next weekend if I'm lucky.

SuperStreet are "normal" not inverted, but have same spring rates as BC, got mine from Bren @ Apex.

EXE-TC road kit comes in at £1949 plus £300 for top mounts. We can supply if anyones after a set

You cant get EDFC for them though so youll have to get your hands dirty to adjust the damping

Having said that I spend a few days messing with damping settings after fitting a set of coilovers to a car and then leave them alone. Its rare that Ill go back top them unless Im doing a track day where Ill dial them in again to suit the change in conditions.

Its not like Im constantly adjusting for road work, just get them where I want them and job done. I did have Tein EDFC on one of our cars a couple of years ago and at first would change the damping rates over and over (going from smooth to bumpy tarmac, A roads to m.way etc) but soon got bored of the novelty and stopped playing.

I used to adjust my AST's daily dependant on what I was doing. Pootling 'round town, 1-2; wet weather run out 4; dry run 6-7; track 8+. Not much hassle at all and I could adjust all four in under 2 minutes. Resetting it each time the road surface changes is going too far and would become tiresome though, and I'd think you'd be adjusting your driving style to compensate for the set-up change too much, losing focus on the consistent feel of the car.

I'm with you Bren - Mine only ever get changed for track use.

Day to day comfort including spirited driving is fine to leave on the recommended settings of 12 clicks from full soft.

Depending on track I may used all 40 clicks but that is very rare.

Do Porsche drivers adjust their suspension every day ?

At the risk of sounding arsy, Bren are you sure that price is correct? I am not trying to start a war here, but i just checked on RCM website and if they are the same item, then i am surprised.
Again, i have no wish to start a flame war

Ive just spoken to EXE-TC. They think Ollys still on last years prices but expect that the listings will change soon to reflect 2009s pricing. If you want a kit in the near future then I would advise you to got Roger Clark asap to see if they still have stock at the publisised prices as I dont think that deal will be available for much longer Grab a bargain whilct you can
