Default Talk to me about ALK

How good a mod is it and what is involved in fitting.

Thanks

It's a great mod Bob mate.

It does what it says on the tin. Stops the car lifting whilst you apply the power.

I did it via a combination of mods so by just adding that I couldn't tell you as I have the stage 3 handling by Powerstation. Curtis also fitted it buddy. But a geo would be required if you did it hans solo style.

Que someone, to quote lever arm ratios and the fact that it's actually isn't an anti-lift kit !

Seriously, alters the front suspension geometry to improve handling, some say top mounts are a "better" solution for track use as the allow more adjustment.

I'd say the ALK is great for a road car, 'cos I got 'em on mine....

Un-bolt old mount, replace with new one, re-assemble, do geometry to suit use.

HTH

Adds half a degree of caster and replaces the standard bushings. Anti-lift kit is a bit of a misnomer as it doesn't!

Seems to improve the feel of the front and make it feel surer - downside is you lose a bit of steering feel.

Overall I'm happy with the improvement.

ALK has two effects.

It increases caster (which subaru's need due to the large 'king pin' inclination angle they run that ruins teh stock castor.

It is a PRO-LIFT kit despite what Steve thinks (stock Subaru has a small amount of anti-lift, the ALK changes this to about the same amount of pro-lift), so under power it lifts the front end more, this effectively softens the front suspension, so during a corner you end up with more front end grip due to the softened front suspension.

Pillowball top mounts are a better investment fella, you have more adjustment.

But won't get the pro-lift effect of the 'ALK'!

Look at a video of a group A impreza, its clear they have dialled in prolift!

How will that change the front wishbone geometry to the same degree???
Unless they allow you to move the top-mounting 2ft closer to the steering wheel

I agree that they can help, but with a completely different geometric area of the car set up (lateral adjustment).

ALK's, were designed to help with lift off under negative load situations, (hence the name Anti LIFT kit).
Enter a roundabout, lift off the throttleand you 'can' start to wander. Buy dropping the rear of the wishbone, you are pre-loading the opposing affect. Hence a more neutral feel when you do lift off.

If you look at a kit installed you will understand quickly how it works.

I have had them fitted to my last two scoobs, both of which also ran uprated sustepnsion and geometry.

LOL - What tosh...

The ALK increases pro lift and pro dive, so you back off with the ALK and it nose dives MORE.

Fitting the ALK to a Foz is a waste of time (hint, they don't list it in the WL catalogue for the Foz) as the mounting is already lowered! In fact take off Foz mounts are a cheap way of getting the ALK effect, although you won't get the castor effect!

ive got antilift aswell as adjustable top mounts and larger roll bars,,, i will report how much better it is on track,,,,,, but then canceled donnington
also ive snapped the adjustable links aswell,,,,,,, so they are a REAL good investment aint then

this is BEFORE the antilift kit/roll bars fitted

as you can see theres a slight bit of body roll,, the car was understeering like a beast too,,,, just sliding wide,,,,,, so wide once on a inturn with funny camber that the car span

thats all standard STI suspension though
