Question Quick-rack: what type.worth it??

Some Impreza's have quick racks, about 2 turns lock to lock.
Which one have them, Type R or what?

Do they simply bolt-onto the 'normal' PAS system pump etc?

Are they worth it and are they rare (as in mega $$$)?

iirc correctly they came on the type ra's but you could speak to API about a rack from a newage as they can also be fitted. Only thing you need to do is move the power steering pipes, i think colin (playsatan) over on 22b.com is doing this on his type r.

Yer Playsatan has done it, but had to get a machine shop to sort the UJ out, although looking at it today, i don't see why it can't be done easily yourself.

I've been considering actually doing away with the power steering altogether...

Theres a quick-rack (2-turns) on eBay right now. I must admit... I'm tempted. Might be a bit twitchy for me though.

If anyone on here gets the eBay one, please report back!

I have one on my RA, don't find it twitchy at all but never having driven another Impreza I have nothing to compare it with.

It's an RA not Sti RA.
Just been told it is 2.75 turns, same as my Sti. by the vendor.

Everyone I know that has one loves it. One guy said the quick rack is "THE ultimate handling modification" I guess the quicker ratio makes it very easy to control the car compared to the stock rack ratios.

cheers

I think you are right from the comments I'm getting.

In my quest for the Perfect Chassis (that is never ending) seems the next mod to do, but on the cheap!
(ie ebay)
Thanks, Graham.

Well the eBay item number is 290089264038.

Hope someone on here gets it, as it'd be nice to hear back what they think of it.

I'm sure the guys in work would be trying to get me to get it, but I've got more pressing mods to do first.

I have the quick rack on my MY03 JDM STi and think it is a fantastic piece of kit. Where you turn the wheel is where you go and the feedback through the hands is very good.

It's as good a mod as doing the AST's I would say

Yes, about £250 for a New Age.
I think it would be a good mod.
I've read bleeding the PAS fluid is difficult.

Might do it in the summer.

On first picking my car up with the quick rack, it felt like i had no power steering tbh. But that was explained as being 'more positve'. LOL.
Now i am used to it i bloody wonder if i ever had it done at all!
For the WRX a well worth it mod compared to the OEM setup, but not sure if it would be worth it on anything else though.
STI must be fairly tight lock to lock surely? Certainly will be compared to WRX as standard anyways.
Thanks again for that video cookstar! The whining and action made it all worth it!

I swear by my quick rack, only notice how much it helps if you go back and drive a regular racked car fast after getting used to the quick rack, essential for what we do i reckon Graham.
