hi guys having a bit of a suspension mare at the mo, are a p1s suspension dampers and a sti5/6 the same thing. ive been told they might be just p1 has different springs fitted.
can i use the springs of the dampers fitted at the mo and put them straight onto a sti5/6 suspension.

P1 & STi V5/6 are interchangable. No need to change springs either. You can use yours no probs.

Not quite correct, P1 dampers are the same as a Type R but different to the normal (ie 4 door) STi. Best check the part numbers as they are on the damper body, the last 3 digits are the important ones.

Out of interest what is the difference between STI and STI Type R dampers?

mike thank you very very much for replying to my thread, im having a bit of a nightmare with the whole thing at the mo.
the garage i got it from after a threat of trading standards are now getting the whole thing done.
does this fault sound like it could be dampers then it seems to be the most common opinion so far, but guess you are the man to ask.
the problem is that at very low speed when pulling away and stopping or changing from forward to reverse, there is a sticking on the osr wheel, almost like a brake sticking on, but there not. over 10 mph no prob at all. it is only a split second its on for then gone, it really just clunks but very quietly. ive been told it could be a problem called stiction??????
if you could help with this it would be much appreciated
thanks dave

Moley

The rates are different.

Unfortunately the std dampers occasionally oval the bearings in the damper tube which causes some 'stiction' ie it needs an amount of force to make it slide. As the bearing wears you get a knocking noise and play in the damper.
