Default suspension woes, advice needed, please.

My 53 Sti ppp with prodrive springs is acting strangly.

When cornering at speed round a flowing bend, about half way round, the rear end seems to suddenly "tuck in", if you know what I mean.

While trying to find out why, I noticed when I weave the car at slow speeds (Formula 1 tyre warm up style, but not as agressively) it seems to wander instead of feeling rooted, especially at the back end.

The only change to my car recently to my car is a new set of Goodyear Eagles on the rear.

The rear suspension feels rock hard when trying to push it down by hand, as you would expect from an STi.

Any ideas ??

Is it obvious when the rear shocks are knackered ??

Desperate to sort it out soon as my warranty runs out soon.

Got a clunking noise as well, when accelerating and decelerating, every now and again, but don't know if it's suspension, bush, prop, gearbox, driveshaft or clutch related.

Look forward to your advice.

when you come to a stop do the rear tyres feel like they've settled on a small hole/ dip in the road?

IMHO:

You need to start right back at basics Graeme.

Don't know where you are in the country, but you could find a good specialist, ie Powerstation in Tewksbury.

A full spanner check on the front and rear chassis.
Clean everything down. You can then see if there are leaks anywhere.
Check all tyre pressures
Go for a drive on familiar roads.

On a stock Sti I would expect some 'bounce' on all corners by pressing down on the wings. If solid then the dampers could be at fault, probably just one of them, and if so the cornering would be very different left turn verses right turn.

In the end you will take it to an independant expert, BUT before hand you must go back to the dealer/garrantor or you will instantly loose the facility!
