I have a MY97 UK Impreza turbo with the prodrive suspension upgrade , just recently i have developed a knocking noise from the n/s/r to which i traced to the shock and am lead to believe this is quite a common fault ,
My question is can the insert be obtained seperately or is it a complete new shock from the dealer at £250 + ??

Try Bilstein UK in Leicester 01455 283407. They should be able to rebuild the strut or advise.

Had mine rebuilt last week, I had a knocking from the rear, instead of having one shock rebuilt it made sense to have both of the rears rebuilt-No more knocking.

I took them off the car and took them to Bilstein, cost is £50 each +vat, they do a courier service for £12 I think. When re-fitting them though we had to take the spring off so it sat properly on the strut and lined up ok with with the 3 top bolts.

 

Are you sure Bilstein centers know the specs of Prodrive/Bilstein shocks?
I don't think, so even if they rebuild them it doesn't mean they make them as new!
