Default Coilover problem

I bought my 1995 WRX from an import auction. Luckily it had a s/steel exhaust and adjustable coilovers already fitted. But one of the rear shocks makes a terrible noise - sounds like the mounting has come loose and sometimes when stationary, the back of the car bangs and drops an inch.

I'm based in Hertfordshire and I've asked a number of mechanics to look at it, but no-one really seems interested! The coil-overs are Japanese and a make no-one's heard of. Does anyone know a good suspension engineer fairly close by that'd come up with a practical solution for me without ripping me off?

I really need your help guys!

Cheers

Put the car on axle stands and take the unit off yourself. This really is fairly easy work, and even a pen pusher like me can do it!

At a guess, it sounds like the shim pack has failed/dislodged in the one leg.
Many UK and other struts have the 'rattle' but not the drop!
Again a guess, but it must be worth going to Power Station in Cheltenham to get it examined. If knackered though you will need to buy new ones, in which case PS do some very nice ones!
