Considering Eibach springs with stdr MY00 shocks i.a. to reduce some body roll when
cornering. However, OZ Superleggeras are going on soon, but with slightly less offset
than standard (ET48), is there any risk of rubbing the arches?? (Rubberlip in place.)
Hope it will be no problem, as a little bit of lowering will definately make it look
sharper as well......
Edited to say that tires will be 215/40/17.

Simen.

Thanks Jake.
Currently it's still on original 16 inches, but the new wheels are on their way and I just couldn't
stand the waiting, so I had to play a little bit with Photoshop....

Cheers.

-This is how it actually looks right now:

I am using OZ Super T`s 17x7 with Toyo Proxes 215/40`s on my 99MY and with -30mm springs the rears rubbed on the lip when the car had passengers. Assuming the Super T`s have the same offset as yours I would anticipate a similar situation. I replaced the original springs and all is well! I have to say that without damper and/or geometry reset I found no real benefit, although it did look good! Beware "cosmetic" changes which give no real advantage?
The springs were by Chassis Dynamics by the way.

Hi JohnD,

Hmmm... Doesn't sound too promising.
Could you be bothered to check the SuperT's offset next time you go for a drive? (Had SuperT on my previous car (Audi A3), and as far as I can remember, offset was stamped on the inside of the rim, so it can be difficult to spot.) But if you have the regular Superturismo, I suspect that you may have less offset (or spacers?). AFAIK, with correct offset (i.e. 48 negative or more) they are not supposed to fit over the stdr 4-pots on MY99/00, but I could be wrong.
Also agree with you that there is no reason for changing the springs for the look only.
I was hoping for less body roll and a more composed and controllable car at +60mph speed. Don't know the Chassis Dynamic springs, but other threads here indicate that Eibachs will improve (at least dry) handling with standard MY99/00 shocks.

Cheers.

215/40 on a 17x7 ET48 will rub on the rear rubber strip.

Remove it.

Hi again,
Ahhrg...
1) I really want those alloys - they're already on their way!
2) I want slightly stiffer/lower springs.
3) I don't want rubbing tires.
4) And i don't want to remove that rubber lip with the likely result of stone chips/damage to paintwork around the arches. (But I guess I may have to do so, then...)

ET 48 is suggested to work fine (-Unlowered? -With what camber setting?) here:

The thing is, 215/40x17 on a 17x7 with an ET of 48mm WILL rub the rear rubber strip.

Going to a 205/45x17 could do it...a mate has the OZ Supertourismo (also ET48, 17x7) with PZeros in 205/45, with no problems (lowered Leda B equipped car).

I know of several scoobs that have had the "protective" strip removed with NO problems, just make sure you coat it with some of that underbody stuff, or put a tough piece of tape on it.

No biggie really, 205/45 OR remove the strip.

Oh well.
I'm not letting those alloys go!
I'll just have to rip off that rubber thing then. (Assume it's not too smart to let it stay on and and see what happens...)

Hope I can keep standard camber settings if I lower the car as well?

Sorry for all the troublesome questions.
Simen.

-By the way, if ET48 rubs, the Scoobysport MIM ET45 must be one bl88dy tight fit, even with rubber lip off. The lip doesn't free up that much space after all.

Thanks guys.
Now that sounds better - cheers me up a bit.
(Not that removing the rubber lip would make me depressed in any way!!)

Eibachs don't drop the car by 30mm, so you may be OK. Why not just fit them, and if they rub you can remove the strips. Simple.

That said, I've been running the 17" ET48 Superlegerras using 215/40/17 SO-2PP's and Eibach springs on my MY00 RS for the past 3 months, and have not had any rubbing problems. This includes some hard cornering during Autocross/gymkhana (or whatever the UK equivalent is ) events...

I am thinking about these same rims for my 02 WRX when it comes in next month (may 10th) and i am wondering how well these things hold up to potholes and such. Anyone care to comment.
