I have reading alot of good stuff about the bump steer mod and am thinking of having it done. Do I need to inform my insurance company about it, and if so are they likely to increase my premium?

You could either:
a) Phone them and explain what it is and ask if there will be an increase should you go ahead.
b) Just not say anything.
I would go for plan A myself.

But like I've said before - they'd have to be *REALLY* clever to spot that it had been done as the Bump Steer Mod basically comes down to two "shims" (washers) on the steering rack mounts.
The modified geometry that goes with it is "invisible".
