Cusco topmounts
#1
Will the spherical bearing take different types of damper other than Cusco? Is there a standard diameter that everyone uses or will I have to buy new top mounts for my new shocks? Wishful thinking perhaps

Hi John, my MRT top mounts where perfect fit with my AVO struts, and the AVO's were a fit to the stock STi mounts. So Oz fits UK, and UK fits Jap, so i think all of them have the same diameter for the top piston rod.

Gerald,
OK, cool. I think I'll keep the Cuscos top mounts for now then. I asked TEG about the MRT topmounts, but they've stopped dealing with MRT altogether now which seems a shame. They seemed to allow a good deal of positive caster. Anyway, thanks again George

LEDA's don't fit? Must have a better (larger dia piston) strut? Sure they fit to stock scooby mounts?
John, why not call RC Developments who handle Cusco in the UK, they seem good guys.

The types of coilovers i've had, i tried to fit different top mounts to other makes but the differences come down to the nuts at the top which have different diameter top hats which fit through the spherical bearing.
Can't remember the sizes but its something like one is 16mm, the other 18mm, but i can't remember, you would need to check.

Forget the sizes i've put above.
Here's an old thread which tells you the two nut sizes.

Basically you need nuts with the right size of thread for the piston and the right diameter that fits inside the spherical bearing.
Whew!! Hope that clears it up!

Yep! My MRT tops came with a top-hat sleeve to give the right Dia for the strut piston shaft. Must have been lucky with the AVO's as they are a bit weak in all other departments!
