I have just spoken to International Motors (Subaru) who inform me that the spring kits will be despatched to the dealers week begining 8/12/03 at last. IM parts dept are having a stock take in the next few days and thats why there has been a slight delay in them getting the completed kits from Prodrive as its one less thing for them to count!!

Happy Handling days are not to far off

Regards

John

I was told today by my dealer, (Westaway), that they will bve in tomorrow.
They just have to work out labour prices etc.
Interested to know how much is the going rate.

Question

Strange that no one posts on this topic when all WRX03 owners asked in the past about Prodrive springs!
Guys when you'll fit them please post your comments as I am very interested.

Jim

There are a couple of other threads on these springs.
They have only just been released for the 03 WRX, altho the STi kits have been available for some time.

we have been awaiting them with baited breath for ages.

Mine are in at the dealers.

Have booked the car in for them to fit them and arrange geometry set-up next Thursday.

£195 for the springs. (inc vat) and approx £200 fitting and geometry.

Ive ordered some too and if there are any left from the production run they will be fitted at the service in a couple of weeks. I just hope there werent too many back orders waiting for the springs to be released or I might not be able to get any.

Do we know what effect these springs are expected to have?

I could use stiffer suspension on the track, but it's really not worth it if it's going to badly compromise ride comfort.

Lowering is a bonus - but only that. I'm certainly not paying hundreds of pounds just to change the looks (and I know some of you tarts pay loads more than that - but it's not my scene!)

Appreciate any opinions.

Hi,

Just had mine fitted. The look is certainly lower though not so much I'll have to avoid speed bumps. As the springs will take a week or so to bed in I can only offer a verdict based on the short drive home.

The front rear wallowing the 03WRX can experience is completely gone. The ride when cruising on normal roads is slightly firmer, though not as jarring as the STI can be. When pressing on through the lanes and B roads, there is a definate improvement in front rear balance. The understeer is nearly gone (new ARB, drop links and a geometry change will completely cure that) and it's easier to get the power on earlier.

Total cost (with SIDC discount) including fitting (Tyres Northampton - not dealer) was £270. Money well spent IMHO

Should be a good test back from powerstation as it will be about 100 miles so will give me a chance to feel the changes lets hope its all worth while.

Ouch - Cheam Motors just quoted four hours labour to fit, or five including geometry setup. That's around £350 + VAT. Anyone know what Powerstation are charging?

Right just back from Powerstation first things first not related to any of these guys just a very happy customer after 300 mile round trip. These guys are magic it's rearly nice to deal with people who Know there stuff especially Nick who fitted my spring kit along with Whiteline 22mm ARB solid drop links and ALK and full suspension geometry.
The car is now transformed gone is all that high speed float and wallow for a start it copes much better with road cambers and undulations that pass for our A roads. The standard car has a very compliant ride which I was hoping would not be destroyed by the new spring kit and it has not which is nice to report well done Mike Wood at Prodrive.
The main benefit of the drop links and ARB kit is that it no longer understeers which is Bloody Fantastic! it now corners on rails it has three setting soft, med ,hard , I have it on the hard setting to start with so far no problems. The ALK kit has sharpened up the steering feel it no longers feels vague and lifeless in the centre position and now ways up in corners very nicely so you can know feel what the front wheels are doing.

So sorry for the long post but it has been a great day and it is very nice to buy performance components that work and you can feel the difference strait away.

Regards

John

Jim answer to your question

Front camber -1 15 (-1.25)
Front toe total 0 00'(0.00)
Rear toe 0 06'(0.1) per wheel toe in [0 12' (0.2) total toe in]

Set tyre pressures to
Front 2.3 bar (33 psi)
Rear 2.2 bar (32 psi)

This is how it is printed on the A4 single insruction sheet which comes with the spring kit.

Rog Ford Powerstation charge £80 plus vat to fit your springs and £60 plus vat for full suspension geometry grand total of £164.50 including vat. You also get the chance to see three spec C Subarus and a jap spec sti that they are preparing for Ian Litchfield as they also do all his work, which is nice whilst you wait for yours to be done.

Steve ARB £100 plus vat Anti lift kit £150 plus vat solid drop links £65.00 plus vat one hours fitting charged £40 plus vat total cost £417.12. However Steve because I had the spring and Geo done at the same time they gave me 10% off the parts bringing cost down to £380.11 all in, believe me worth every penny.

Question

Thanks guys!
If they give such settings I imagine that the car lowers only front (or more front to increase oversteer) and rear springs are much harder from the factory than the fronts, otherwise there should be some understeer in the end!
Do they give also different bump stops for the shocks front?
Sorry for the torren of questions but I'd like to order them and want some opinions.

Jim,

There are no bump stops supplied with the 03 WRX spring kit. I can only assume this is because Prodrive deemed them unnecessary.

I had a further 'play' today and am quite impressed with the new on-road ability. They'd be too soft for serious track use, but you'd be better off with the full coilover blah blah blah job for that, or just wait until you win the lottery (not this Wednesday though as I've reserved that double rollover) and get Prodrive to sell you one of Petter's ex company cars

All these 'road' spec systems are a compromise between ride and handling over varied surfaces in varied conditions, and I think Prodrive have done a damm good job.

Just my 2p.

Steve
