Washer / spacer by top mount
#1
Building up a new / second hand suspension ( STi4 struts and springs, new STi top mounts ) I have all the bits EXCEPT the washer / spacer that goes betwen the top mount and the top spring cap.
Is this important, what does it do?
I was hoping to build the new units up and then do a quick swap to fit the new suspension, but looks like, if this spacer/washer is useful, that I'll have to strip the old suspension down just for the washer/spacer.
Anyone have spare washers/spacers from these bits going spare? Or what they look like /are called and whee to get them quickly ?

You MUST have this. It's the spacer that spreads the clamping loads from the nut, through the steering bearing and onto the spring cup. If it's anything like the one on the STi8 which I've just done it will be tapered, the smaller diameter bears against the bearing inner race, the larger dia. spreads the load on the cup.
