I thought the same thing and have decided to ask the question when i get them fitted.
If it needs doing for the intial drop of spring height then if it drops more, will it then alter the toe in or out or camber angle? does anyone on here know.

Just ordered mine and want to know what they are like, how much do they lower the car by and are they a lot firmer.

Arron, Had mine fitted last week to my STi7 Prodrive with 18" wheels and it has definately lowered it but appears that it still needs to settle. Measurements at the moment from ground to middle of wheel arch are:

Front: 66cms
Back: 65cms

Ride seems better at lower speeds although still need to test out on really twisty roads.

Does anybody know if they are the same for the 8 as the 7?

 

The springs for the 8 are different and currently in development with quoted availability of 2-3 months. But based on our experience with the STi7 springs I wouldnt hold your breath.

 

was going to have the springs changed, phoned up 3 dealers and they all quoted me different prices one said i did not need the geometrey doing as the struts would go back in the same place but if i wanted it doing it would cost about another £65, i would not be able to trust them to do it unless i watched them after saying that. The other 2 to me, were riping me off with what they quoted and therefore if the prodrive springs dont make a lot of differance to the car then are they really worth doing.

So what's the general price for these that you have been told.

 

Springs all about £166 + vat,
fitting £220 + if you want it geom at about £65 both + vat = £530
fitting at 2nd garage £260 + geom + vat = £500.55p + geom
fitting at third garage £390 inc goem + vat = £653.30p
totals inc price of springs and fitting

Buy the springs and get TSL to fit them

 

Thats a great idea if you happen to live near TSL but for me I would rather pay my dealer to collect the car, drop off the courtesy car, return the car when finished and send me a bill a week or so later. Means I don't lose any time off work, not without car for a day and don't have to drive 200 miles to get it done!!!

 

Whites (Scoobie dealer in Cirencester) quoted 80 quid to fit the springs. Got it done by Powerstation in the end, same price 80 quid.

What are they like? Little bit lower (but still settling after a week). Little bit stiffer but nothing stupid. No crashing and banging over potholes. Just nice really. They appear to be prgressive (tighter coils at one end) so that explains how they can be stiffer in corners but not crashy over bumps I guess.

 

Chelspeed, did that include the Geometry check or didnt you bother?

 

If you have lowered springs fitted, the geometry will alter - a lot- loads of toe out on the front I think. I may be wrong, but my TT had loads of toe out after I put a set of Eibachs onit.

If you think about it, its like having permanent bump steer - as the chassis lowers in relation to the unsprung parts of the suspension, all the angles change.

 

I did have the geometry set-up but that was extra, forget how much.

What I'm a tad concerned about is how much they've settled in a week, if the geometry was set with them first installed then will settling change it? I guess not, the geometry set is needed because the struts have been disturbed and refitted rather than because the ride height has changed from standard. Maybe. Nearly convinced myself....

 

I can't believe your springs will'settle' in the space of a week.

In that case, all nw cars would need re tracking on arrival at the dealers from the factory.

 

bttt - I'm interested as I'm hopefully having my springs done then would be off on hols to Scotland a week or so later and don't want a set of trashed tyres if things are still "in limbo"

does anybody know?

on the wrxclub(?) BBS, a few seem to fit springs and then have geometry done "later" if at all (doesn't seem to be much awareness of it over there)

I spoke to powerstation today about changing my springs and asked them about it - they say there's no change to the geometry as the spring settles so no probs with having to reset things in a few weeks / later

Thanks for that apple, will now just wait for the springs to come and then decide where the best place is to get them fitted tsl 45min drive or powestation 2hour drive.

same dilemma here but the Fosse Way is beckoning (hope whichever council has filled in some of the potholes after my last trip down there - it used to be a decent driver's road)

might make it an excuse for a night away...

they do get tracked or are supposed to be as part of the pdi don't think many dealers will do it though

 

phone call from dealer your springs are here, i then asked are they red? he replied no they are blue.[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img] [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img] I have just waited about 3 weeks for them to get the wrong springs, i told them when i orderd them that sti 7 springs where red.

 

had springs fitted at local dealer today £350 all in, the pricing up before was wrong or they have repriced the job

Not bad for an hours work. If they charged you extra for tracking they are having a larf, particularly as they said (I may be wrong) that lowering the car doesn't make any difference.

 

I picked mine up from Barrets about 2 weeks ago, but I haven't had the time to fit them yet. Maybe next week.

I called my dealer yesterday and they did not know of the Sti 7 Prodrive spring kit. The Prodrive website shows that it exists but the Subarau web site gives no part no. Can anyone help with the offical part no.? How does the dealer know what to order? Should they be red or blue springs??

Part number for 02MY STi Sports spring kit is SACC2554. These springs are in stock at the moment and are indeed red!
