Best spring rates for Ledas

Was running the original 275/225 setup, which was ok on the road, but could have done with being a bit firmer on track. the 325 fronts would've have helped
Currently having the Leda rebuilt and I'm changing to 450 front and 275 rear...just like Kippax (Stuart is that you?) along with Pillow Ball mounts and full Poly bushing...hmmm...might be a tad firm on the road but maybe a hell of a lot better on the track!

I run 325/275 with 12 clicks front 8 rear and find it good all rounder.
I would love to have some more force in compression, but that would involve changing the valve.
Tim, with that front settings (425) the car will become much more understeering. Do you know if the rebound settings backwards can match the increase in understeer?

I'm running 325/225, with a full Powerflex bushing kit...and it's amazing on track - just the perfect balance between grip and roll, and it really reacts to liftoff and lfb.
I believe harder springs would remove some of the grip in the car.

Andreas, When I was at Leda last Saturday dropping my dampers off I spoke to David about what I use the car for, I was originaly thinking of 350 275 myself, but he thought that with the Slicks that I use on track I would benefit from a higher rate set of springs at the front.
With the original set up I was finding that although the car would turn in well I would get a lot of understeer once the car had settled, and then under power the back would come round and I'd be palying with a 4 wheel drift...general consensus was that my geometry needed adjusting (it did) and that the springs were too soft leading to too much roll...
Now at my last track session I was tussling with David B in his Exige and Mellow in the Sti V RA V limited (600 on the front and 300 on the rear IIRC), just to give you an idea of how hard I was playing
On a dry track I tend to run about 22 clicks on the front and 18 on the rear...in the wet about 16 front, 12 rear...on the road 8 front, 5 rear. I also run about 1.5 degrees negative camber all round 7 minutes to in each side at the front and 5 minutes toe in at the rear. I also have Cusco upper and lower strut braces on the front, an upper Cusco brace at the rear and MRT solid drop links front and rear. Other than the roll the car handles very nicely, very controllable on the throttle
I'm hoping that with with fresh springs and dampers things will improve...if they don't I can always try some other springs
As well as the bushes I'll probably also add the lower rear brace to the equation along with a tie bar accross the rear seats like the Sti's have (mines a UK model)

My only fear (in a personal hypothetical change of the springs) is to have very hard springs unmatched with compression and extension resistance.
with the present configuration (325-275) i have a car prone to bounch at medium low speeds and a car that the faster i go the more "flat" it is. I've driven it @ 140mph (danke!!)on high speed corners and the car was unbelievably firm.
what's your opinion on Mellow car. was it bounchy, "back braker", or anything else?

caronte, you are right. you cant just put stiff springs over low-rate dampers or it will be underdamped. just like you can't put soft springs over high-rate dampers or it will be overdamped. leda will adjust the damping rate internally depending on the springs you choose.

Thanks guys - looks like recommended 325/225 is the best compromise for mostly road use.
Roads are pretty bumpy round me anyway so anything too hard might be a bit of a nightmare.

Not been in Mellow's car so I don't know what it was like on the road...looked fine on the track, he could just about stay with me
I have driven a scoob with leda on 350/275 with the same pillow ball mounts as I have - when I say 'same' I mean exactly the same, mine came off that car when the owner (Pat) went to Proflex - and bushes etc, it felt exactly the same as my car around town, certainly no worse.
Mark (R19KET) also ran 450 and I think 275 on his car, again it was no different to ride in than my car from memory, although for various reasons it's been a long time since I've been in that one!
