Default Balljoint installation troubles

Hey guys currently in the middle of fitting some new balljoints, theyv come out fine but i carnt get the new ones to go in at all, iv tryed using a scissor jack to lift the bottom arm up to push the new one in but keeps going in crooked iv damaged one of the boots already. And dont want to damage another ideally. Iv now got both the hubs off to try tapping the new ones in but no joy, iv tryed sanding/cleaning the insides out and opened it up abit with a chisel. I brought them off ICP so i assumed they would fit well. Am i doing somthing wrong and obvious? Any help would be appreciated

Yeah been there.
There not genuine Subaru ball joint unless you ask for them, I managed to get them fitted after lots of filing but they only lasted about 4000miles.
I bought genuine Subaru ones to replace them and they went straight in.

I expected that to be the possible cause. Wheres best to get OEM subaru stuff on the net? Did you have to press yours in or hammer them or did they basically push in by hand?

Three things: Always measure the taper of the old ball joint with the new one using a vernier caliper (unless using genuine OEM parts).

Whilst I'm not aware there are any difference with taper sizes on Subarus (unlike Renault Megane IIs which do vary on year), we're talking aftermarket parts here, and they could be anything (unless they are Blueprint or Lemforder, which are usually OK). If the taper is a different diameter it ain't gonna fit..

Two: Hold open the pinch bolt fixing in the hub carrier by driving a wedge in there and keep it in there (taking the chisel back out will just allow it spring closed again).

Three: A damaged boot (gaiter) is a MOT fail. Replace the boot or you'll have to do it all over again come MOT time.
