Default Help solving crashy ride

Hey guys,

Had the scoob for a while now, the only thing letting it down is the ride quality.

Heres the spec

KYB Ultra SR shocks
Tein S Tech Springs 30mm/25mm
ARB Strut brace
Whiteline Rear 22mm Adj ARB
Whiteline Rear Droplinks

Wheels are 18 with toyo proxies on.

What can i do to get a less crashy ride, failing that the cars going.

I was thinking tyre myself, perhaps drop down to a 17" bbs spec c wheel.

Spring rates not a clue, as there from the previous owner.

Tyre pressure are what ever prodrive roccomended, off the geo thread on here. Cant remember off top of my head

in the old days Tein came with very hard spring rates, for smooth Japanese roads,
I believe that new kits come with a softer spring.

Damper rod size:
Have you got the inverted (39mm dia) ultra sr's or the non-inverted (22mm) ultra sr's?

On all 4 wheels:
Hook a tape onto the outer wheel rim nearest the ground, measure across the wheel centre, up to the arch = ?

Then measure from the outer wheel rim, across the wheel centre, to the opposite outer wheel rim - divide the measurement by 2 =?

Take the answer from the second measurement, away from the first.

Tell me what you've got now, with fuel level.

With a 20mm front bar and the rear set to 21mm, they're not that far out.

I think your main problem is that the Tein's are too low, you've lost damper travel and you're sitting on the bump stops.
Many cars sit on their progressive bump stops. But, the KYB front stops are rock hard, as a form of pitch control, on smooth, flat roads.
So, over-lowering, on a Impreza MacPherson strut, creates poor handling and a horrible ride - unless, you don't lower too much and match the bump stops.

Yeah, over lowering could be an issue, so what springs would you reccomend?

Recommend Prodrive Red springs if you can find them - note they came in two variants, pre-05 as fitted to the WR1, and 05+ which are slightly stiffer.

If you can't source any then PCA Dynamics may be able to sort a new set.

Jake
352.5mm front ride height
332.5mm rear ride height

The lowered front ride height is ok. That could be sorted with a shorter, progressive bump stop.
The rear is all about looks. IMO, for a road car, it's 25mm too low - It's typical. No rear bump stop is going to, adequately, deal with that ride height.

I'm waiting for a linear, positive rake, '03-'07 STI prototype spring set from Eibach.

The combination of rb320 front spring and the S05/D5/001 rear spring was my starting point.
The rates, ride heights and free lengths were adjusted from there - to ensure they are compatible with the available STI rated struts/inserts.
