Default Alloy wishbone upgrade on hawk WRX

Hi all,

Just looking to the future really. The stock steel wishbones are looking rusty and tired. If/When I ever need to do any bushes etc. it would be nice to upgrade them to the alloy versions..
Do any of you guys know what versions are interchangeable? I would ideally like to buy used ones and fit poly bushes to them as opposed to buying the ones from say euro car parts at £177 each!!

thanks,

You will need classic STI alloy arms :-)

I did the same mod on my old bug wagon, about to do the same on my new hawk wagon.

When you are looking for them, try and buy them from someone who is including the ball job my cones. Otherwise you will end up forking out £40 for the cones alone!

By the way, the reason you can use new age saloon alloy arms is because they are too wide.

Thanks for the reply. I did wonder if basically any cars running the 5x100 spacing wheels would have the same fitment wishbones?!
From what you are saying the blobeye/bugeye wishbones will not fit? I thought all the steel ones were the same as the hawk?

Was the upgrade noticeable? What improvement if any did you feel?

thanks again.

It's not that the bug or blob wishbones won't fit, it's more that ally wishbones are from STI's and in the UK we only got saloon STI's. If you can find a STI JDM new age wagon that is breaking, it will be a straight swap. But that will be very rare.

However there are lots of classic saloon sti's breaking, which use the same size wishbones as new age wagons.

I fitted mine at the same time as loads of other bits, so can't say if it made a difference or not. I'd imagine if it did, it would be very very small.

But as with all things to do with mods, collectively it may have been worth it.

If I am honest I am a little concerned about the rusty wishbone recall thing. Local dealer said they had been inspected but I have read of them failing even after inspection.

I have a 24mm roll bar on the front now so I would like to know it is secure.

Classic arms don't fit properly, they move around in the mountings. The pre widetrack STI alloy wishbones are fine on a newage wagon. This was demonstrated to me by Matt at MB Dev.

I've got a set here that I'd love to get rid of and would sell them for £45 posted. Will even refund you on them if you find they're not right for whatever reason, just in case.
