As per title guys,

Really struggling to find rear shocks for my 06 sti hawk. Everywhere I've looked sells WRX ones and says 'not suitable for STi models'. Am I missing a trick? Anyone have a link to the shocks I need?

You can get Rb320 Bilstein rear dampers there cheaper than the Sti Kyb ones. Then maybe upgrade the front to match.
Still expensive though. :-(

Or rebuild your old ones. But if the bottom nut and shaft is to badly corroded then there kaput!

 

Get a knackered pair of rear 02-07 wrx struts.

Get two of these inserts:

Cut and drill strut housing (powder coat if required - don't get powder coating inside the strut body) and install koni inserts.

They're inverted and the strut top mount looks right.
Unless the rear spring rate changed dramatically on STI 05-07? Is the Hawk heavier?
If that is the case, the benefit of the Koni inserts and the kyb agx's, is that they are adjustable, to match the spring.

I don't agree with them being suitable for the wagon variant (GG) though. I think they'd reduce negative camber. Unless you bought some camber bolts.

 

I used the above kyb on my 2005 widetrack, it's just the front they don't make yet....

 

You can put Koni inserts in the front strut housing.

Knock off the top seal.
Knock out inner seal.
Check for intruding metal in the tube, particularly toward the bottom - Regardless, run a hone or flap wheel down the tube.
File paint off the 3 locating lugs, toward the top of the insert.

A friend just got a set for a WIDETRACK blob from euro car parts

 

Do you mean a set of 4?
Or a pair of rears as in post 7 - £92 each

 

I looked up rebuilding at the time,
but ended up getting RB320 struts in the end as they were only £150 a pair at the time.

 

Do you know if there is any reason that they wouldn't fit a widetrack blob?

My rears have started knocking but I don't want to go for coilovers as I've got a set of Tein springs ready to go on.

 

I've got KYB Ultra SR 321004/321005 fitted to the rear of my blob widetrack the rb320 struts are fitted to the front with prodrive springs all round. They fit fine!

 

Ah ok thanks. Where did you get the KYB'S from? I couldn't find them on Cams kill and didn't fancy taking a chance on any ebay jobbies.

 

I got mine through ebay, but I'm pretty sure camskill can get them, there are plenty of reputable motor factors on eBay though.

 

If you've got a saloon blob/hawk STI, and completely lost faith in the rear kyb inverted struts, you could use:

I had the same problem with my MY06 STi Spec D and ended up going for the Yellow Speed Racing coilovers from ScoobyClinic. Not too hard, lots of options on damper settings etc and reasonable price. Got a little niggle on the front struts which should be sorted soon but that could just be something wrong with mine.

That's correct.

If your concerned about the inverted style strut's longevity? Then use the twin-tube style strut in post 17. But don't forget you'll need the separate bump stops listed, with that version.

321004/321005 are ultra sr saloon inverted struts, for the rear - 40mm of rear bearings. Longevity, before knocking? 20K - 45K? If performance is important, as opposed to just passing the mot, I'd change any struts at 60K, as a matter of course.

324030/324031 are ultra sr saloon non-inverted struts for the rear - would need separate rear bump stops.

The rb320 rear saloon inverted Bilstein's, also used 40mm of rear bearings - due to the subsequent knocking, they had and additional 3rd, 20mm, bearing added.

Still working on some inverted 30mm Bilstein inserts to fit the kyb front and rear inverted housings.
