Default Purchase disaster

Long story short: I am looking to sell the car already as it is costing me so much to run to work every day. Yes I know I should have thought of that!

Sounds like the dreaded inverted shock knock.

KYB Ultra SR are the same shocks. Much cheaper from Camskill at around £100 each

Use some white grease spray on the rear shock shafts. If the noise goes away even for a month its the shocks, if not then top mounts. Suspect shocks. had both mine changed on my 06 WRX years ago under Subaru warranty when car was less than 3 years old.

KYBs way to go as said above.

Unfortunately after a couple of days I noticed the dreaded knocking from the rear. After two months the dealer is now avoiding my calls and doesn't show up when I arrange to meet him. The car is supposed to have a warranty but the dealer is clearly dodgy as a three legged chair so it looks like I'm going down the trading standards route.

In the meantime, scoobyworld tell me you can only buy the shocks from Subaru and its around 375 per corner!!!

Assuming I'll have to pay for this initially, is this really the cheapest way of sorting this problem?

I am looking to sell the car already as it is costing me so much to run to work every day (yes I know I should have thought of that!) but I'm just not sure how to remedy the problem most economically.

Thanks

Wow, the trade in is a massive sting.

I feel bad for you, nothing worse than owning a car you've lost the love for.

You could remap it for more MPG, more power and fun. You could look at reducing weight to help with MPG too.

The Kyb struts are supposed to be OEM quality, and quite cheap. I highly recommend Tim Farmer the mobile Scooby mechanic for fitting or sorting the suspension. His price and experience can't be beat.

I love the hawkeyes, they are the best looking out of the lot for me.

Maybe once you've sorted the suspension with maybe a remap you'll love it again and decide it's a keeper.

Get it inspected. The best option for you if it turns out to be the rear struts is fit KYB Excel G's, they are the same damping rate as standard (Ultra SRs are supposed to be equivalent to STi struts). KYB don't currently make the inverted type struts in Excel G's but, as I have just fitted to my 05 blob (05>blob/hawk wrx share same suspension) KYB make a standard strut that fits all WRX from 2003-07, so that covers blob and hawk. I bought mine from ebay for approx £75ea.

Part numbers for your rear shocks, WRX saloon GD 2003-07 are:

Left 334359 ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/dsc/i.html?_so...dkw=kyb+SM5361

Right 3344358 ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/dsc/i.html?_so...4359&_osacat=0

rear top mounts (if needed)

SM8101 L ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/dsc/i.html?_so...dkw=kyb+334358

SM8102 R ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/dsc/i.html?_so...8101&_osacat=0

Shocks can be stripped, cleaned and re-packed with Lithium Grease - If the knocking isn't too severe and the internal bushes aren't destroyed, it should cure the fault.

Yep you paid too much, but hey ho, you live and learn, I paid £4k for my 54 plate Blob PPP with AP4 pot front brakes which cost around £1200 at the time of purchase, around three and a half years ago, it's still worth similar money now with the brakes and 20k more miles, but it was a bit of a steal at the time.

I know this doesn't help your situation much, but I would do what my mum taught me to do if I were in your situation. Go to the place you bought the car, park up outside on a saturday and or a sunday when they are the busiest and tell anyone that will listen your experience, I would just stand there and shout don't buy anything from these guys because when you have a problem they don't want to know.

P.S I even did this in a gun shop in America where the guys behind the counter were all packing and guess what, after I scared of a few customers I got what I wanted.

Leaning towards sorting brakes (see my other threads) suspension (the Sachs ones I mentioned above) and having it remapped. I will also need four new tyres so I'm well into a thousand pounds to get it how I want it!
I'd budget for an engine rebuild soon, as you have the 2.5 possibly the most unreliable engine produced by Subaru.

It's a sh1tter mate but I really don't give a **** how much time I spend when someone screws me, I will get satisfaction at all costs, I'd take a month off work and make it my job to screw the ****** back and be there everyday from 7 til 7 if needs be, any and everyone that comes there would be put off, I would be the biggest pain in the *** he has ever seen, I don't work so I'll do it for a year if I have to and then some, but I do make donkeys look reasonable when I'm p1ssed, I'd set up camp outside his gaff, and if he want's to get violent or try and intimidate me, welcome to my world.
