Default TD04 hybrid turbo

Upgrading to a vf34 turbo in around three weeks so putting this out for interest first and to secure a buyer before its off.

Been on my car for approx 3k miles only upgrading as I want more power now. Have a graph for the turbo which produced 304.5bhp with similar torque. Great turbo with real fast spool up and more mid range power where the standard Td04 runs out of puff. Ideal for a fast road car

Mods were -

550 pinks
Sti tmic
Full decat
Panel filter
3 port bs

Looking for £300ono posted.

Ah sorry mate forgot to add that, turbo was built by Andrew Carr and also mapped by him too. He said it was identical to the AF TD04h and produced the same results. I had a faulty nps switch which affected the results slightly so am sure it could see 310bhp easily. Hope this helps

i thought these would spool earlier than the graph suggests? been toying with the idea of one to replace my td05 as im missing instant pull but my 05 pulls at about 3500 rpm as well, id thought that these would spool nearer 2500?

I've also recently put on Harvey smith ported headers and up pipe so the turbo spools really early. I'm in Manchester mate near the trafford centre

Does spool quick mate. It spools just like my standard TD04 did but doesn't run out of puff. The power does seem quite instant but then I've never driven a car with a turbo like the TD05 or VF34/35 so Couldt compare them

Be interesting to see how your vf34 compares to the td04 , I'm having my vf34 fitted on Monday hoping for a nice drive home, good price for the td04 though cracking little turbo, should sell quickly.

thanks for the reply m8, its a dillema for sure! my wagon is running 315bhp on an apexi an commander with 440,s etc and an andy f map, but the lure of quicker spool is pulling at me lol. power would be almost the same (circa 300 on the graphs ive seen for these) just need an opinion on someone who,s driven both to see if its worth the bother.

Thanks mate. What are you up grading from? Only ever hear good things about the vf34 but would like to hear from those who have up graded from td04 to a vf34

Starting to make me wonder if I'm making the right choice now with loosing spool to gain more top end

yep lol its why im hankering to go the other way. out on the motorway and the duel carriageways its awsome from midrange to top end but i dont do much motorway driving so very rarely get the chance to use it, whereas a quick spooling turbo with almost the same power for country road blasts and being nippy around the town really appeals

Yes it was mate, built with new internals bigger compressor wheel i think and ported using the standard TD04 housing. Had it on the car approx 3k miles but now going for more power with a vf34 the graph above was it on the rollers after being fitted but didt get the most out of it due to a faulty nps switch. Switch replaced and Harvey smith ported up pipe an headers and the spools crazy

You can see my project thread when it was fitted

Hope this helps

Been lots of interest to be fair mate but I guess a lot of time wasters too! Now I've got a date its coming off I'd rather have a new buyer lined up so I can use the funds on the vf34 lol. Tell your mate not to miss out hell love it in his bug its a great turbo and not covered many miles either

I was thinking about doing the same but keeping my options open now engine wise. Vf34s don't come up often and its a scratch I must itch even if I'd be getting a bigger turbo when engine is replaced lol.

Lots of guys offering the money but as yet no one has come up with the goods. Really cracking turbo this guys will make an awsome fast road car believe me

This is probably a really stupid question, But would you need a remap going from a standard TD04 to a TD04 Hybrid? Just curious.. thanks

I would say to get the most out the turbo and to avoid any possible damage it'd be advised to have a map tweak. Hope this helps

Bttt
