Default 2003 Blobeye STI 432bhp

---------SOLD----------

After a much deliberation I'm calling it a day with Subaru for a while.

I've had 10 Impreza's of which all bar one have been daily/weekend cars, and a few have seen track..

I now think it’s time I moved away from a Subaru for road use anyway as I'm kind of bored with the whole routine of chasing power, and then getting to a point that I'm happy with, to then driving it knowing that modifying it further is either extremely expensive or unworthy, which in the case of this car it is. There is scope for more power with a turbo swap, but to be honest it's a quick enough A-2-B car. Maybe it's just a current mood thing, I don't know. I kind of think I enjoy more working on cars than driving on the road, and as a road car goes it very nice to drive, but I feel the need to go on track, so I'm thinking of selling up and going down the track car route later on, especially now I have a garage large enough

Although I've only had this one for a little while, I have put quite a bit of time and a little cash into it in such a short time, but how I feel at the moment I just can't be bothered going down the same route I have done a handful of time to only have a road car.

I paid just under £7'000 for the car 2 months ago, and done the below:

Taxed so I could get it home (cant recall cost, is it £150?)
Roof repainted as it had a tacky air generator on that I removed £250
Exedy Twin Plate clutch Kit £600
Hella horns £40
Front PU Splitter £100
Detangod the current headlights £50
Complete service inc clutch fitting £410 (discounted for exchange of graphics)
Andrew Carr remap with ALS and LC £350 (discounted again)
Bespoke Grill (I made)
NPS switch £50

SC42 turbo
Fuel Lab FPR
Tein Coilovers with HKS top mounts (Fully Adjustable inc castor)
840cc injectors
Scoobyclinic 3" Decat (not too loud, and I think the tail pipe has been repleced)
Scoobyclinic Stainless headers
Scoobyclinic FMIC
Inner wing CAI
Defi Gauges and controller
Gold Team Dynamic 18" wheels
WRC style Mudflaps
Carbon style mirrors
Strut Braces
STI Mats

Firstly the bad stuff and each car has some, so it’s only right I mention it to be honest:
Oh, there is none
I tell a lie there is a very tiny mark on “one” of the spokes of one of the rims, but its ever so slight you may not notice. Also if you change into 4th aggressively the syncro will let you know it’s not ready for your gear shift, but to be honest you need to be reving high and brutal with the gear change to ****** it. The Exedy Twin Plate is a little noisey when the clutch is engage, but this is quite usual. One carbon style mirrors has a slight mark on the top where it’s been over polished. That is all, nothing that is of any concern to be honest.

All the Good Stuff then:
The Car drives faultlessly, the power delivery is smooth yet quite aggressive, and each gearing up provides a continuous thrust of power. There is minimal lag, and the gear changes are smooth (unless you ****** it in 4th!). Andrew Carr mapped it with two settings, one for either Vpower or Tesco 99, and another for Vpower or Tesco 99 and 20% meth. The Petrol along offers 400bhp, whereas the meth increases torque a lot and an extra 32bhp. Since I have had the car I have removed a horrid Vortex Generator from the roof which was only put on because someone clearly has no taste! This was unfortunately fitted with some heavy adhesive, so rather than painstakingly attempting to remove this I had the roof resprayed by Elite Motor Bodies as their workmanship is second to none.

Next was to give the car its Service as it had been garaged for a few years. I instructed Brian Coward at Cams Performance in Blackburn to carry out this along with some other modifications, as he has always looked after my Subaru’s for me. Also I noticed that the clutch was also slipping slightly when power came in at its torquiest point, so I purchased a Twin Plate Exedy with the vision of putting this car on track. Along with the engine oil, the gearbox oil and other fluids were also changed. A new NPS switch was fitted (common fault) in case this later became an issue, as the 6 Speed NPS are pain in the **** to fit when the gearbox is in situ. Plugs and filters also fitted, and the air filter cleaned.

Andrew Carr then took my car for the weekend to map it, which produced 430/400 on meth, the car benefits from two maps as mentioned above, as well as ALS (Anti-Lag) which actually operates as ALS should do, and offers around 1.2 bar of boost when engaged. Launch Control is also very effective, and with the combination of all this with a clutch you know wont slip means you will just need new tyres sooner . Video's at the bottom of this post.

The Interior is mint, no signs of wear, or marks, or any other obscene add-ons. There is a single Boost Gauge that was fitted prior to the Defi’s which is limited at 1.5 bar, so this can now be removed. The Defi gauges are the usual centre pod fitment with Boost, Oil Temp and Oil Pressure, and the all-important controller.

The Team Dynamic Wheels are AS NEW bar the one spoke on one wheel that has a small chip in it.

The Brembo brakes have been professional refurbished in Red, If I was to put this car on track I would consider a set of two piece discs with some FP pads, but clearly that is unlikely unless it doesn’t sell.

The engine bay is very clean and tidy, no horrid bling, but everything that is needed to help it perform well. I've considered wrapping the IC pipes, but to be honest it's a weekend road car, so I see little point unless circumstances change

The Bodywork is very tidy, I haven’t found anything that I can be negative about, and I am being truly honest. There is no signs of a crash, bump, or additional paint, and the car is straight and very clean with near no road related debris markings. The car polishes up very nicely, and does justice for the common colour it is.

Overall experience of the car is its a fantastic road car, the power is more than is needed for the road, and yet it ample enough for fun on a track. As said the power comes in nice and smooth, and stays on boost throughout all the gear changes. ALS is quite aggressive, but the Stainless Headers are more than capable of taking it. I wouldn’t advice over using this though, as I don’t think the strong arm of the law would appreciate you putting some old dear in a grave early! I find that the suspension quite harsh in its current set up, but for a weekend toy its fine as is, but with fully adjustable coilovers you can easily soften up the suspension. The ride height on this is far better than my last blobeye where the splitter constantly struck speed bumps. The splitter is PU so it’s likely to survive any minor knocks unlike a Carbon or Fibreglass ones. The car turns head just like most other Subaru’s do even when tickling along.

I am 35 years old family man and find myself a very mature guy, so chasing a pimped up Saxo down the bypass is no longer my thing (yes I've been there 15 years ago, just like you probably have), and I drive with sympathy for the car and other road users. It’s a shame that this car might be going to a new home, but anyone that knows me will tell you I get bored very easy (the mrs is doing good though at 11 years, and married 1 year) and I think that is where I am with this car.

Anyone that wants to view the car feel free to contact me, but please respect that I work strange hours, so it’s likely that I will have my phone turned on silent between 10pm – 6am.

Offers around 8500.

Car is located at BB18 (Barnoldswick Area),
1 hour from Manchester/Leeds/Blackppol/Kendal
1.5 hours from Sunderland/Doncaster
2 hours from Birmigham/Carlisle/Hull

Contacts are:

Thanks
Rob

Map and ALS switches

SORN

Short clip with ALS & Launch control, more clips to come when they have uploaded at home.

ALS and LC

ALS and LC making 1.2bar

LC no ALS

Short in-car run with ALS. very slimy run so no/little traction

Another video taken today (Tuesday 17/12/13) on the moors behind me. Just a gentle potter about and a launch to show those interested what it's like. Unfortunately the roads are wet through, so not a very exciting clip. Also the knocking is a desktop I had on the rear n/s that was sliding into the seat where I had the camera fit, I moved this around 7:50.

I appreciate there was no price yesterday, but sorry it’s going to be more than £7k, I’ve thrown plenty £ at it in such a short time to let it go for any less than £8k.

Cheers Chris, yes you can vouch for the condition of the car alright  Clutch was fubard, so this was on the cards along with the oil changes as we discussed, but then I got carried away with the idea of chasing more power (sighs). Anyway its now cost me far more than I am asking for the car (doh). How are you anyway, I see you lurking around the for sale ads of the big powered cars on here!

To be fair Rob you gave me £6800 just 3 months ago....the car was in absolutely pristine condition as we both know and it looks like you have spend a further £1-1500 further improving so whichever way you look at this Rob you are llosing at least a grand PLUS !!!!

Knowing whats available out there this is a steal, I recently paid £12k for a mint Spec C and have since put new APs all round and some and Id say yours condition wise is better !!!!!

And I'm fussy and have OCD Lol.....

Cheers Chris. With road tax it was around £7'000 when I bought it from you, plus I tallied it up to around £1'900 spent on it inc other small bits and bats as well. So the car owes me £8'900 which considering it cleanliness offers over £8'000 is a fair price I think.

Someone offered me £7500 today without viewing, and I may have a viewing on Sunday lined up from the original half written advert.

What you driving now? You still got the Audi and Lambo? What you planning to do with the Spec C?

I'm now at work, but from memory, petrol was around 400/380, and meth was 430/400, Andrew Carr said he could have got more out of it, in particular on Petrol, but its safe where it is.

Brilliant ad and a brilliant car.. and a very very fair price. Not many blobs I look at and want, but this to me is about as perfect spec wise was one could be for what I would want. A very fast usable road car.

If I thought I would find the time to use it I'd be there!

Short in-car run with ALS added to post one, but the very green/damp roads prevented getting some traction.

Apologies for the quality (iPhone)

Whilst I know you can't return on investments in mods, the fact remains the car needed Tax, a clutch, roof sorting, knocking coilovers, and a service to what was already a £7k car that I paid. So when I invested further with remap and more engine tweaks etc I think its fair that my outlay of over £2k on a £7k car is negative equity when I'm asking for offers over £8k

I've refused plenty £7'500 offers just because I know its work £8k+ all day long.

I don't want to start removing stuff, or break it as it's too nice. Has been considered though but it would daft if someone wants a mint car.

Looks like a good deal. I might have been temped if this were for sale in a few months and not now.
