Default 2001 Bug Modified Impreza - Huge Amount Spent

Well I really didn't want to do this, especially after spending so much on it, but where I now work from home, it's just not getting used and can't justify the insurance, tax and general running costs for a couple of drives a month

It's had no expense spared since I purchased it in August 2011. The book is full of stamps and has been serviced roughly every 6000 miles from new. I've got a large folder full of paperwork.

2001 Subaru Impreza WRX
MOT until March
6 Months Tax
95,000 miles (only a few thousand done since full rebuild)

Closed deck block (fully rebuilt only 9 months ago)
Forged Pistons
Forged Rods
VF43 Turbo (added in October, only done 25k miles)
STi Injectors
Walbro Fuel Pump
K & N Panel Filter
Remapped by Duncan (Race Dynamix)
BC Time Attack Engine Mounts

Tein Suspension Springs (rear shocks also replaced).
Uprated 4 pot brakes (not 100% on model but but discs and pads also replaced recently).
Full Decat Exhaust & uppipe (Have catalytic converters if needed).

STi Spoiler
Prosport Stepper Gauges - Oil Temp, Pressure and Boost.
Headlights detango'd.

Maintenance - Brake pads, discs, rear shocks, cambelt & tensioner, clutch have all been changed within the last 6 months as well as little bits like wheel balancing. I have receipts for everything. Recently had a full service.

Always run on 10/60 Millers CFS oil since rebuilt and VPower. Warmed up carefully before using any power.

Downsides:
Only real issue with the car is with the 4th gear synchro. Under throttle it will pop out of the gear so either the synchro needs sorting or a replacement 5 speed box which can be picked up pretty cheap.

I've spent around 7 grand since purchasing the car 1.5 years ago, this really is a lovely car and I'll be very sad to see it go. Not interested in P/X as I'm simply not driving any more hence the sale. I'm in Southampton (SO31 area) and available any day for viewings. Please PM me if you have any questions.

£3500

Thanks,

Simon

Unfortunately not no, didn't hit the reserve. Hopefully someone on here will want it as it would be great to sell it to someone who has a real passion for them.

Due to lack of interest, dropping price to £4,000. This is the absolute lowest I will go so please don't offer anything less than this.

This really is such a lot of car for the money. £7,000 of receipts from last 18 months and the gearbox issue isn't hard to fix.

Thanks.

Hi Simon,
Who built the engine & did you get any warranty on it?

Cheers

Hi. It was Eclipse Performance and it came with a 12 month warranty, which will expire in just over 1 month. In mid October, the engine was opened up by Triton Motorsport in Bournemouth after an oil leak was found. I think (don't quote me on this as I'm not the most technically proficient) it was the cam seal that was the issue so this was sorted along with engine mounts, brake discs, pads and uprated turbo. It was also remapped by Duncan after these changes were made to ensure it was running sweetly.

Since then have only put about 1,000 miles on it and it drives beautifully.

Any other questions, please fire away

Rebuilt in March 2012 by Eclipse. Opened up in October 2012 by Triton. Should have made that clearer in my last post sorry.

Hi Simon
thanks for the reply.
Just a quick question.
If the engine was still under warranty from Eclipse why did you go to Triton about the oil leak or was there other work you wanted done?.
Hope I don't sound too picky.

No problem at all, happy to answer any questions.

When I contacted Eclipse about the issue they didn't get back to me.

I didn't bother to chase them up on it for a few reasons:

1. Eclipse are hundreds of miles away.
2. Time and hassle involved, wanted the issue sorted right away.
3. Getting lots of other work done on the car.

I suspect Eclipse would have got back to me but I haven't advertised the car as having a 1 month warranty on the engine due to the fact that's up for debate (plus the changes that have been made to both the engine and tuning since).

Thanks for the honest & comprehensive answer.
I was after a car for my daughters boy friend but he has now decided against a Scooby.....................silly boy!.

I wish he had gone for your car. It's hard to find a decent one at a good price especially with an owner who is open & willing to share information on their car.

Hope you get what you want & I am sure whoever decides to buy it will have got themselves a bargain.

Cheers Simon & good luck.

Ah right, not to worry. What's he decided on out of interest?

Thank you, hopefully it will sell soon as starting to lose my nerve

I think he is looking at Focus ST or similar. He is just nervous about cost of fixing a modified car.I told him your mods are almost new & built by reputable engineers & the engine is much stronger than a standard car.

If he comes back from the dark side I will let you know.

Don't worry about the nerves. It's just as bad for the buyers.

Cheers & good luck.

Fair enough, probably would be cheaper to run than an Impreza...well scrap the probably

Give me a shout if he changes his mind as you say, thanks

In terms of sheer fun, the ST isn't in the same league as the Impreza, fully agree with you. Depends what you want out of it I guess.

Thank you. Really am in two minds about selling. Part of me says keep it as it's fun and at least I know everything is good and working after the recent work. Other part is saying it's daft having a car when I only drive 200 miles a month and I have access to another one! For sale atm anyway!

I don't want the hassle of breaking it, just not worth the time for me tbh plus don't like the idea of it being broken up into bits, daft as that may be

Ok I've just had a few things come up and I could do with the money to be honest. I said I wasn't going to lower the price any more but if the car sells over the next 7 days then I will let it go for £3850. I really do think this is a steal but I guess everyone does when selling their own car!

If it doesn't sell by the 17th then it will go back up.

Someone please give her a good home!

Thanks, someone will get a nice deal here. Being a 12 year old car it's not mint, but it's good condition and well look after, that's for sure

Unfortunately I do need to sell. I thought it was priced pretty well but not a great deal of interest so one final reluctant drop to £3750.

Pretty much a brand new engine, brakes etc etc. Please PM me if interested.
