Default Stripping Carbon Fiber Lacquer

Hi everyone,

I've recently got a carbon fiber bonnet, which had pretty bad laquer damage, I knew this before I bought it. But stripping the lacquer doesn't seem as easy as we'd hoped. Obviously I need to get this sorted before re-lacquering.
I really don't know the best way to go about this, someone recommended that I vinyl wrap it, but I really don't want to do that, otherwise I'd have just done the standard bonnet. Also, I don't want to damage the carbon.
Help please anyone???

Cheers,

Lee

What about some sort of nitromors or paint thinners!! Not saying it works just wonder if it will be ok on carbon fiber and not wreck it!

Been advised against using chemicals, most advice seems to be as Scoobyman said, 1500g wet and dry, with lots of soapy water and stacks of patience. Doesn't seem to be a quick way

Best thing to do will be to remove as much of the damage clear as poss if not all of it.

Due to the lay up you'll have resin then clear coat ontop.

Get a good rubber block and some 800 grit wet and dry, then a bucket of water and block the clear off. Try not to go through the gelcoat/resin.

Then you can re clear the parts.

Have a quick look at a guy from some one like carbon mods. Your basically doing the final steps of one of their processes.
