Default Cheap Nasty Ebay Doo Doo!!!

See these lights... look good don't they... YEAH FOR ONE WHOLE WEEK!

You know there's a saying; if it's too cheap, don't buy it... yes I have heard it but I didn't listen. Cheap Ebay doo doo! One night of poxy rain and they filled up like two damned gold fish bowls!!!

If you get tempted, don't do it... you're waisting your time and your money!

As you can tell by the tone of my post I'm well p!ssed.

Just spent the day refurbing my old ones to go back in; if I don't get my money back all hell's going to break loose! I thought they'd at least last the length of the 12 month manufacturers guarantee that they're probably going to try to wriggle out of!

If I don't get the money back I'll strip em and refurb em my myself but I won't be happy and I'll name and shame the supplier; no gagging orders here!

Yeah did think of that initially, but I'm struggling to see past the red mist at the moment. I normally put the units in the oven to split them but I don't know if the Halos will take the heat.

Not everyone's taste I agree but I was please with em while they lasted; they were only the best part of £160... but it's still £160 at the end of the day.

I have spoken to the seller and they've asked for photos which I'll be sending over. Had bad experince with another seller on there when their spoiler turned up looking like it was just taken off a write off and thrown in a box and he claimed he never received it after I sent it back, even though the carriage company confirmed that it had been signed for so I'm a little bit tense about the whole returns thing. Lets hope that was an isolated incident...

Even with the refurb the slightly milky lenses let the original units down.

Hopefully the seller sends a new pair or a refund. As you said £160 is still £160!

Doh! Contact the seller before attempting to repair. You never know, they may surprise you.

Remove the rear boots, on the lights.
They will then clear out, but best off making the vents bigger as they usually crap.

I`ve had OEM lights having to have their covers removed cos they have gone foggy inside, just one of those things, once they are clear and have stayed clear for a while, then put them back on.

Other way is to chuck in a few bags of silica gel, that will suck up moisture like a super sponge.

After my anger management session today I decided to repair the units; I heated them up split them and whatd'ya know, the manufacturer was extremely tight with the sealant. I filled the cavities with generous amounts of windscreen sealant and then water tested them. Bingo!! they're cured!!

The moral of this story is that if you're going to buy cheap, be prepared to perform the quality control yourself!!

Had the same cr$p in the past man, paid about 120 for a second hand lot for my last car, fill with water then after you do the refurb they ok for a bit but the sealant eventually degrades and lets in water id get em back to him if or at least blag some discount

Cheers mate, still getting small amounts of moisture when it rains (only when the lights are in use) but no leaks as such, I did notice about 5 small triangular shaped holes round the back of each unit, are those the vents that you mean?

I'm assuming then that the mist is building up because the lights are getting too warm, so when the cold rain hits the outside of them it's creating fine condensation inside the lense?

Cold moist air heats up and leaves moisture behind, as the air cools it sucks in atmospheric air, this has moisture. This repeats until the light is like a sauna.
OEM lights do it, aftermarket ones, its not a matter of make as Hella units are renowned for it.

Seriously take the cap off the back, and you`ll get no more problems once the light has been used for a while. ONLY other way is to fully seal the unit after baking it in the oven to remove the water, and then you only need a small leak and it`ll be back. Bets off enlarging the vents or just removing a cap from the back. Have a look at the size of the vents on the OEM lights, and you`ll see how large they are.

Pull a cap off each and you`ll be fine.

My mothers Seat Arosa has these lights on the front.

And they have had the caps off after 3-4 trips back to the dealers for new ones, or drying out, and getting cheesed off. Not had ANY problem since they were removed.

Notice the steam on the front light on this.

Yup as stated, good ventilation to the units works wonders. I had aftermarket rear lights on my old Civic and they used to steam up really badly. Couple of holes later, and they were spot on

Great, that sounds encouraging!

The vents in the back of mine are cone shaped nodes about 4mm in diameter with a trianglar shapes hole facing downwards.

I'm thinking I'll just cut them off with a dremmel and see how that goes.

Thanks for the tip!

TBH I'm going off them rapidly, want OEM ones back but they're not cheap; and I have other things I want to address 1st so if this works it will give me some time to get the cash to replace them.

To make them easier to sell after (non abused) just pop the caps off.
You can swim your car and as long as the engine doesn`t get too wet it`ll be fine. Lights will work with the car underwater

Default At Last - Thanks to PMB

At last! Thanks to PMB Performance I now have a good, clean pair of STI headlights and a respectable looking front end for sensible money.

Many thanks mate

My final word on this is: For anyone out there even contemplating buying a set of these... DON'T!

Ahhhh... that's better

i know its a year later but i just bought these and are fitted and i love them i think they are much much nicer then the ugly standard lights and altho i think the black out oems look very nice these are still much nicer and look wicked at night. i do get bit of steam but no leaks . the worse was the wiring but had it done professionally. the proper lights are going to be better quality but these do modernise the car i think with the silver especially your car looked better with the halo lights
