I don`t have any lower grill mesh on my 2003 blobeye (only just noticed
). I`m sure there should be some. Could someone suggest the best place to get some (black)? The only place I`ve found so far is Zunsport at about £90
. Thanks.

Heres a subaru part fitted to mine, its not cheap at £130 but it fits perfect and matches the upper grill a treat.
Buying seperate mesh is all well and good, but on a big part like this you will see the difference, then theres the hassle of making it look right and a tight fit.

Just had a close look at mine and it looks the same, minus the actual mesh! Wonder if it possible to get the same mesh from somewhere without buying the whole part???

Mesh is available in several styles and colours from Halfords for around £24 a sheet and easy to cut with tin snips.
It can be secured unobtrusively with small cable ties.
Remember that anything in the airflow will detract from the performance of the FMIC, air con condenser or water radiator.
My experience with hybrid FMICs is that mesh is totally unnecessary. It is more a fashion statement than a performance enhancer. (actually a detractor)
If you feel the need to fit mesh then go for as open a weave as possible.

As Harvey says, above, I reckon mine will stay out
Now weatch me hit Mr Pheasant..........
The mesh on mine was secured on the top by tiny black plastic cable ties. On the bottom it was with 2" long U-shaped fixers made of copper enamelled wire, poked through the mesh, around a bar or pillar of the existing plastic mesh and twisted behind. Even more invisible than the cable ties.

As Harvey says, that's where mine came from.
Cut it with wifey's kitchen scissors
The secret is to take off tiny amounts, try it, take off a little bit more, try it, etc etc.
Mine, above, has got resprayed since that was taken, satin black with the Subaru stars in white again.

Used to have a zunsport one on my blob, now I have a splitter the hole is a different size so I sold it. I have just had delivered some black plastic mesh from RGM that I am going to make a grill out of, once I have cut away the black plastic bit behind the numberplate
This is way better than diy store mesh
Best stuff to get on a budget IMO

Good man (may buy some more myself soon)
It's very OE looking, classy and already black + not metal so isn't going to rust, no need to paint and looks like it hasnt been 'added' if you look at the upper grill on that 'EBS' reg bug-eye you can see how close a match it is for Subaru stuff.

On mine EBS! I took the license plate off and made a template with card board. Then with Tin Snips I cut and shaped alittle bit at a time. Until it fitted. Then 4 small screws at the top (2 behind my plate) painted the heads black! Then for the bottom I used 2 zip ties, joined them together on each side and connected them through the mesh and on the back of the bumper. Hope this helps alittle!
