Default Carbon fibre Vinyl. Your opinions on this

Been thinking of doing some vinyl on the roof as ive just noticed some laquer coming off.

Looked on ebay and found this stuff
CARBON FIBRE VINYL.1M x 610mm.Self adhesive.cars/crafts on eBay (end time 23-Sep-09 14:00:09 BST)

this looks pretty good imo as there is some right **** out there

I dont want this stuff as it is very clearly fake
MASSIVE 1M x 610MM CARBON FIBRE EFFECT SIGNMAKING VINYL on eBay (end time 26-Sep-09 17:56:10 BST)

Has anyone tried this?

Comments more than welcome

be interested to see the results............

think a lot of people get it done with one large sheet as i imagine it would be quite difficult to line up several sheets exactly

All the dark graphics on my car are done in carbon fibre vinyl and they look great.

I'm not sure what the whole roof would look like though, would be very interested to see as I was thinking about it too.

Here you go, its nowhere near the quality of that in the first link.

I didn't think anything else would match the genuine carbon stuff on the car though.

plus it was done for free

A graphics place should be able to do the whole roof in one sheet mate.

The key would be to buy a real good quality vinyl.

My carbon stuff has a 7yr life but isnt the best looking.

The blue metallic sunstrip has a 10yr life and costs £55 a mtr!!!

thats ok mate,

I just spoke to shayne who does the graphics, he said he could get something that even feels like unlaquered carbon fibre but it costs £70 per mtr!!!

That stuff I have on mine was only about £4 per mtr and is only really any good for small graphics. I don't think it would look very good on the roof either mate.

Bully for you Daz some of us cant afford it. I looked into it and it costs as much to ship as it does for the product. £480 was my quote before fitting

I love my carbon mate as you know but im just weighing up ideas.

I personally think the stuff i showed looks good but would have to see it in flesh first

I know this is going against every one else, but I don't even like most real carbon fibre on cars. As the weave is normally rubbish (I work in in the aerospace indusry and have worked with compsites for years)

So fake carbon fibre vinal is just wrong.

Opinion taken mate. I have a carbon bonnet(used to have alot more) and compared to the stuff we use on Naval Aircraft(im an aircraft engineer) it looks cheap. But the aircraft stuff has to be mint lol.

I'm just interested to see if it would work. not expensive to test lol

Priced this today with a few local vinyl companies in N.Ireland as i was thinking of doing the roof on my RB5.

They said to do the roof in carbon fibre vinyl would be around £200-£300 and would take 3-4 hours, or to do the roof in just plain gloss black vinyl would be £80

Steep enough i thought for the carbon, wonder how it would wear

It's difficult to tell from the poor quality photos and video on the DecalFX site, but it looks like a standard embossed foil vinyl, which is okay for flat or slightly curved areas, but is impossible to fit to anything like a roof or bonnet as it has no conformability whatsoever, think of it as trying to fit a sheet of cooking foil onto a compound curve. The only stuff which would do the job, and by far the best looking, is a 3M carbon effect. I've seen pics of full cars, including wheels, done with this stuff, but haven't been able to find a UK Supplier of it yet.

I have a vinyl cutter and in my spare time make up stickers vehicle graphics sign writing etc and I was going to get some carbon effect vinyl until I looked at the price of it
The supplier I use only uses top quality materials and they only do one type of carbon effect a cast 5-7 year outdoor life.
If I got 25 meters x61cm it would be about £23 a meter
Normal 5 year vinyl is only around £2.50 a meter.

Without application tape it’s also very hard to fit and in big sheets on a roof forget it It is cast vinyl so will mould to the car a bit but it will look shocking with creases and bubbles in it

At the price on ebay I would think its crap quality.
