Post How to fit a HT Auto's Bugeye Splitter

My HT Auto's bugeye splitter turned up today and in all eagerness I couldn't wait to fit it. The difference it makes to the front end of the car is phenomenal and it looks much more aggressive

This is the car before:

Tools required:

Cross-head screw driver
2 x 10mm spanner or 1 spanner and a 10mm socket
Trim removal tool or flat screwdriver (to remove factory pop fastener)
Drill and small drill bit 2-3mm

Step 1:

Behave like a kid at Christmas and unwrap your present

I then placed the car on some low ramps I have fro extra clearance, but mine is quite low so on a standard car you could probably get away without doing this. Then peek under the front bumper and familiarise yourself with the factory holes. If you hold up the splitter you'll soon see which of the factory holes can be reused with the supplied nuts and bolts.

I opted to use the factory pop-fasteners at the ends of the splitter so I drilled the holes out to fit.

The splitter is so light it held up quite nicely with the two end fasteners in place and made the next stage quite easy.

Step 2:

Identify the factory holes to be reused at each end.

I opted to only use 2 of the 3 remaining factory holes as the 3rd one was a little tight to get the nut on. This where I had my one and only drama - I appear to have received a rouge washer with a hole that was too small for the nut. Took me about 30 seconds to drill it out.

Remember to tighten these before lowering it back to the ground if you've jacked it up otherwise it becomes awkward

Step 3:

Using the remaining holes as guides drill pilot holes for the supplied self tappers and screw them in.

Step 4:

Stand back and admire your work

Even the box it comes in is useful as a mat to lie on.

Big thanks to Mark at HTAutos

I got them from ebay for a steal (25 quid) but they are normally nearer 100 quid. They are Orciari ones and you can get them from Revolution.

Always loved the Oscari side vents but WAY too expensive new, HT Autos should make some

Cheers mate

The splitters are about £100, worth checking out the group buy section.

Damn, guessing the offer will end soon. I've just forked out for a new exhaust manifold so won't be spending any more on the car for a little bit. Will have to pay top dollar later down the line I guess!

They really do look great though, suits yours really well. What headlamps have you got there mate?

I wouldn't panic, he puts the offer on a on a regular basis, you may just have to bide your time a little.

The lights are STI ones (HiD from a Jap Import)

Bug STI lights and the grill is similar to the JDM STI one!

I'll swap my bumper and splitter for your prodrive bumper, and I'll even throw in the Orciari side-vents

I'm thinking the exact same thing! I'm definitely gonna order one of these before the end of the month, but later down the line I might get the bodyshop to carbon wrap it.

In these pics it is straight out of the box, however I am going to get it blown over in a coat of satin black when I get my full respray done early in the new year. It is showing its age a tad now, although a respray is not necessary it seems a shame to miss something so simple when I'm getting the rest done.
