This is a good way to do it, although if you search you will find other ways.

A nice easy job. 1st gently heat the letters with either a decorators hot air gun or the missus's hair dryer to soften the backing pads (be carefull not to get too much heat on them as you will soften the paint). As you heat the letters you can gently prise them off, you will be left with the remnants of the sticky backing which can be removed with products like Meguiars Bug & Tar remover or Auto Glym Tar Remover on a clean rag after a quick reheat. This may take a little time. Another option is to try to blag a filler card & some panel wipe (1/4 of a litre is more than enough) from a local bodyshop. Use the filler card to lift the edge of the letter after heating & wipe the residue with the panel wipe - it will be a lot quicker. Finally buff the area up with your favoruite polish. One removed the letters will only be fit for the bin but thats probably the best place for them! The rear of your car will now look wider & clutter free!

I used a length of fishing line to do mine after a gentle warm with a hair dryer. Just used a sawing action to get the badge off, then used Tardis glue remover to take the sticky stuff off and some polish to finish the job.
