Can You Chrome An Inlet Manifold?
Hi guys,
I'm currenlty looking into cleaning up my engine bay. I've just bought a spare inlet manifold which I'm having converted to reverse mount.
I was wondering if I can have it chromed? noe one seems to know the answer.
What is clear, is I've not seen a photo anywhere and so I'm thinking not.
Would the chrome be able to handle the heat?
Someone told me it would, but it would turn a gold ish sought of colour, which to be fair sound quite cool and would maybe match my silver/ gold paint?
Any experts out there know the answer?

Hi,
Theres a place up where I stay that does CHROME powder coating not sure on the costs but I couldnt see it being more then £50 as he was charging me £30 standard gloss black. if your interested I could get a price if you want to do it that way, send it to me and i'll send it back.
or
send it off to get all polished up and smoothed then give it a final coat of laquer if thats possible.

You can chrome plate ally but it is bloody expensive. The reason is that there are 2 or 3 (cannot remember exactly how many and what they are but nickel and brass come into it somewhere) other metals that have to be plated on to it 1st before the chrome plate with each layer needing polishing before the next one is added.
However the manifoild does not become hot enough to tarnish (proper term is straw) the chrome so if it done properly will look good forever unlike polished ally which would be a real PITA to keep looking good.
Any chrome platers should be able to advise but not all will want to do the job.
